So this happened last night...

A rock (or so I think it was, it happened so fast) flew into my windshield on the highway and made a crack the size of a golf ball!! You can imagine my frustration

Just looking for any advice on replacing with OEM glass and dealing with insurance companies. Is it better to go through BMW or Safelite (more than likely who I'll be going through)? I probably won't be getting it replaced any time soon, considering inspection is still good until Sept 2016 and my lease is up Nov 2017; I really hate to be driving around in a BMW with a huge crack in the windshield, but I would hate even more to replace it now and then it happen again before inspection/lease-end.

Hate that for you, but do go ahead and replace that windshield. Chances of that happening again is very slim. You'll most likely have a full on wreck before another rock that size.

It's also a safety issue.

Do you have the HUD? If so, think the glass is different; so go to the dealers glass specialist. Ask service, they'll tell you. Otherwise, call their body shop and ask them. They have to share the body shop info with you.

If no HUD, Safelite is a good choice. With your insurance, shouldn't cost you anything.

Thanks man, yeah I emailed my local SA yesterday and he said they sub-contract through a local glass company here in town. I checked their website and they say they use OEM equivalent glass and they handle all the insurance procedures. So if BMW of CC uses them, I guess it couldn't hurt to try them out!

My local BMW dealer handled my last window claim. They ordered in the BMW glass but had a private glass contractor come to their dealer to do the install. They have a day every week when they bring in the glass guy and do any repairs required for that week. The results were perfect. You couldn't tell it wasn't factory installed.
