No, the token is tied to E-Sys, not the data set version.

ECU programming/flashing is what the dealer does when they update the software. I have not seen any procedures for doing that here, but I've seen Shawn mention it a few times, so I think some people are doing it. It's not something I would want to play with, especially with a car that's still under warranty. I think the .swfl files are being used by people doing retrofits.

I would think that flashing an ECU would be much a more risky operation than normal coding and I don't know what BMW service would do if the car software level didn't match their records.

BTW: The full 49.1 dataset is 17.6GB, 13.6GB of which are the .swfl files.
As Frogman wrote, flashing an ECU is risky. If something goes wrong, the ECU can be bricked, and you may have some trouble getting a replacement under warranty.

The vast majority of people need only the Lite Version.

True, the EST Token is tied to the E-Sys version; however, a move from 48.1 to 49.1, will necessitate newer E-Sys, which in turn will necessitate a new EST Token and Patch.

I think the Lite version is more than enough for me. I was just worried that I can't code VO's or read certain ECU's with the lite version; now that you guys confirmed that I can code FDLs and VO's I'm good!

By the way, I went to a dealer two weeks ago and they mentioned that there's another recall on the F30 (Not the FEM recall). They never explained to me what it was but if it requires a software update, I might as well just get the EST Token and patch just in case.

Would it be safe to say that if the dealer updates my car next week, I should be able to use 49.1 to reapply all the coding to my car? Also, do you think it's necessary to just VO code all my ECU's to default before taking it in for service? The M Performance logo on the instrument cluster is probably a big clue that I coded the car.

For me, I would just change the ///M Logo back, but you can VO Code all ECU's you coded to reset them.

49.2 was pushed to dealers on 3/29, but you should be all right with 49.1.

49.2 has only one new CAFD:

cafd_000000f9.caf.007_006_009

If you need it, you can most likely get away with just adding it to your existing 49.1 CAFD library.

Mine automatically turns on when I put the car in reverse, no coding was needed.

I wonder if it's a regional thing?

It should activate automatically, if the reverse cam came originally with the car, time to visit your dealer rather than programming it yourself...

Maybe, and maybe not. What version of ISTA/P is on your car?

Hmmm...it's hard to say then, as you could have 48.0, 48.1, 48.2, or 48.3, and E-Sys 3.18.4 for F30 is only good up through 48.2.

Do you have any version of PSdZData now to go with your E-Sys 3.18.4? If so, what is your I-Level:

I can, but the updated version requires you buy a new Patch / Token, while the older one does not, so I was trying to help you avoid that.

Your call, old or new?

Hey Shawn,

For someone just starting getting into coding are the guides on the front page still relevant? Should I even look through those PDFs? I'm an IT Professional so I should figure this out, just want to know what documentation is good to start reading?

Thanks.
