The back of My driver pull handle, the part that you actually grab, is all gummy and coming off. Anyone know where i can buy this part from online?

You could check BMW parts Wholesale. Just search BMW replacement parts on any search engine. There is the euro parts site that will list everything by VIN for a particular vehicle.

The handle to open the door? Mine appear to be a single piece of metal, with nothing there that could come off. If it's something else look here:

Yup, it's replaceable:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=51_8523

It's part 2 (6 different part #s due to 3 available colors and whether it's the driver [left] or passenger [right] door pull).

It's pretty easy to decipher Venetian Beige, Everest Gray, Coral Red, Saddle Brown, and Oyster. Schwarz is black.

I'd be interested in seeing pics of the crappy one once you pull it off. Is the rubberized material like melting off with a sticky or gooey feeling? I've seen this happen in other cars' dashboard pieces with the same finish.

Was it actually failing or was it just dirty?

I had a Lexus where big portions of the dash had that rubberized material. The rubbery material (I think some form of plastic) started to self destruct after several years. Basically it was disintegrating into an sticky greasy mess.

I replaced it last night. You have you pop out the window control buttons then remove the whole door panel. The handle has plastic rivets that you have to drill out with a 5/16 bit in order to remove it from the panel. I dont have whatever tool they use to flare the rivet ends on the new handle. I just installed it with the screws alone.

Installers use a heated glue stick to replace the factory black sealed ones. Works well.

Really... man how times have changed!! The last time I removed a door pull strap, you just popped the cover trim off the handle to find it was attached by large screws each end, running right through into the steel door shell.... but then that was decades ago and the straps were made of steel... bloody cheap modern cars!!

It still is. Now it's also attached to the liner with plastic rivets. Why I can't say, that you'd have to ask BMW.

Yes you're right. I just watched a Youtube vid on removal/replacement, but this was an e90 where there is only a bolt at the top, the bottom just had the plastic rivets. I guess it makes assembly quicker if it's already attached to the door card, saving the valuable seconds it would take to line up another part to bolt on!!

It's most likely related to the car assembly process. They're not going to add an unnecessary step that takes time and materials unless it somehow recoups the costs those entail and more.

I have the same problem and considered replacing the entire door pull, the rubber melting portion is not a separate part, too expensive. Considered removing and wrapping the rubber portion with vinyl, too much work. I finally stumbled on a you tube video that demonstrated an ABS plastic cover that snaps in place over the rubber, comes in different colors and patterns, Found the website, dhgate , searched F01 interior door handle cover and ordered; 40 bucks and 2 weeks later received and installed them. Look great and resolved the sticky mess. Hope this helps.
