Water marks :(

Hey guys,

I own a F30 Black Msport 335 and this thing is so hard to wash. I wash it and literally 2 minutes after im done there are water marks from dripping/leaking water down the doors. It ends up looking worse than before I washed it.

Other than sitting there for an hour and re drying the car every time theres a water leak what can I do to prevent this?

Thanks

Air is the absolute best... But it's not cheap.... What I do is wash the car, dry it, take it for a quick and NOT smooth drive for a quick 5 minutes.. This usually shakes all of the water out, then dry it off again.. this really helps me.

I have found that most of the water ends up leaking from the mirrors & the drip rails. For the drip rails all you can do is blow the water out. For the mirrors i found that if you 'tuck' the mirrors up about a cup of water flows out of them. I dry the car, tuck the mirrors, then redry. Its not perfect but its better than nothing. I also keep a clean towel and some detail spray in the trunk for light touch ups when the car is clean.

Only negative is neighbors think I'm crazy.

This may be obvious, but a good paint sealer and a coat of wax goes a long way to reducing water spots. It shouldn't be harder to keep water marks off one car more than another other than the level or detailing beforehand.

This is a pretty good article showing steps necessary to get past just about any imperfection. Keep in mind that this is the most intensive version… If you take care of your car regularly you probably don't need to go through all the steps.

Best thing to do is have the car coated to prevent them. The best product if you are going to do it yourself is 22PLE, very good product and easiest coating to apply.

I have been washing my car with a gallon of ONR mixture. I use a garden sprayer to spray it on a panel at a time and work on that. Never had any watermarks or such since since the car is never soaked through with water. Last Sun, tried for the first time the Zymol detailer. Car now looks even shinier with it!

I use a Stihl leaf blower...works good. Cleans water out of most of the hard to reach areas. As mentioned a good sealant helps as the water just rolls right off.

I keep a bottle of quick detail spray in my trunk with a clean microfibre towel. See a spot...just give it a quick spray. Also handy if you get a bug or two on a clean car or some dreaded bird shit. In the trunk of my 135 there is a great elastic holder build into the trunk on the drivers side. Holds a bottle of quick detailer spray and a towel perfectly. Maybe the 335 has the same?

I keep mine under the trunk's floormat. There are two compartments in there. One I keep window cleaner and quick detail spray. The other I keep my microfiber towels.

Only problem here is it rains almost every day, so if I clean off one spot, the rest just looks worse. And I'm too lazy to wipe the entire car down every day.

I wouldn't recommend driving it and then drying - ever seen all the dust that accumulates? Mainly on the rear bumper/trunk but also the sides. This is going to create swirls very quickly.

The main thing is to thoroughly dry the jams everywhere. I have struggled with the mirrors too, and best thing is to fold them in and out and maybe stick the edge of your towel into the housing (under the glass) to absorb the water that pools there. I also fold the towel and run it along the gap between the window trim (rain gutter) and roof to gather the bulk of that.

True, but this will result in the jams and sills of your doors, trunk, and hood quickly becoming dirty/dusty.

Water leaks from the side mirrors and drops down the front doors. I always tie a rag around the base of the mirror, which usually absorbs the water as it leaks. You probably wouldn't drive around with the tags tied on, but if you're leaving the car in the garage or parked this'll work.

Ha ha ha, I use my Husqvarna. I imagine my neighbors thinking the same thing. It is the best way to dry imo.

I also do the sills every time but I guess I've forgotten the hood sills.

Sweet! Have seen a few around here but that makes the car even more unique! Hope to "run" into you sometime!
