Tire size-upsizing
Anyone from TireRack, please offer your expertise on the following questions. Thanks.
For the square setup of 225's all around, how much wider can the stock wheels handle? 235, 245? For the Msport, and 19" staggered setup, how much wider on front and rear? Same 235, 245 on front? And 265, 275 in rear? Is there enough room? On my 135i I have a staggered 225/255 setup. I went with 235/265 with all seasons with plenty of room for the tires on the wheels and wheel wells. But, I think 235 up front is the limit with most tires as wider tires would rub. Once I get my 335i Msport, I'll need new tires within a couple months. It will have the staggered sizes. I'll be getting high perf. all seasons like Conti DWS, or Mich Pilot Sports. I'm running Conti DWS on my 135i now. Great tires btw. |

Most people haven't had time or a need to do this, yet. I'll know by this fall as I'll need new tires for my new 3. The stock square setup uses 8" wheels. If you look at tire specs on tireracks website, some 245+ widths say they will fit 8" wheels, but some don't. Seems the wider and shorter side profiles tires can handle the 8", but taller sidewalls with wide sections need 8.5" and above. I'm sure 235 will work no problem. But if 245 works, that size in a square setup would look nice. Audi's A4 uses 245's all around, good look. I'd prefer a 245 square setup to the staggered 225/255. Likely I'm getting an Msport with 18's. Msports use a staggered 225/255. For that 235/265 should be no problem. I wish BMW offered a square setup for the Msport. Oh well, can't have everything. |
