Powermagic Pro (for Dashcam) with iDRIVE - any problems?
All,
About to fit a dashcam to my F32, and really wanted to hard wire it into the fuse box so that it received power during the day, and would record any car park dings/drive aways... WAs looking at the "Power Magic Pro" but have seen that wiring a dashcam into the car using anything other than the glove box power (with auto power down after 10 minutes) can cause iDrive power messages. 1) Can anybody confirm if they are using Power Magic? 2) If you are, do you get iDrive error messages (I have read elsewhere that there is 'battary drain errors')? 3) If not, then does anybody know the best fuses to use on a F32 (I assume I have to use the fuses in the boot - that there is no ALWAYS ON) power source near the clove box? Thanks All. Last edited by jaffab; 05-19-2014 at 07:21 AM.. |

I'm using a $25 ebay battery-powered Dash Cam to get around the same problem, its good for a couple hours without charging but won't run through the night.
Comes with a car charger which I leave connected.

You should probably put a fuse in the circuit if there isn't one already.

Check this radar install guide. The add-a-fuse part is what you would want to do. I hardwired my radar mostly following this guide and it was not difficult (and has worked flawlessly for a year now). Of course, you would want to find an always on fuse.

I use an Itronics 100HD wired directly to battery with a fuse in between
records 24/7 I get the battery drain message every day when i start my car. I did some testing and this is what i found: Battery voltage when i get home and stop the car: 12.9V Battery voltage morning after: 12.0V Battery voltage after 4 days of not driving the car: 9.9V car struggled a bit to turn over at 9.9V but it still started up fine. IMO not something im worried about, i lasted through 2 winters without pulling the camera out. i only take it out when i go on vacation and dont drive the car for 3+ days. maybe ive just been too used to the message and it doesnt bother me anymore lol Last edited by Chris@codemybimmer; 08-30-2014 at 03:06 AM.. |
