No... that is a different sound. The buzz mentioned in this thread is more of a quick buzzing type vibration that comes and goes as you sweep through around 2,000 RPM.

It almost sounds like a dog whistle (not quite that high frequency though).

I usually hear it when leaving the parking garage with no radio on. As I have 3 floors to get through to get out I'm right in that 2k RPM range. It doesn't correlate directly to throttle or anything it just buzzes intermittently.

Just a little tip for folks who haven't had this fixed yet.
Make sure the dealer knows what part of the hose they need to put the weight on.
The first dealer i went didn't even want to fix the problem because they said they "can't hear all the time, so it is hard to know what to do" EVEN AFTER i gave them the bulletin code. I insisted they better do it, and they did. Noise persisted. I took it to another dealer and they knew about it, and they said the other dealer installed it on a wrong spot. So they moved it and the noise is gone. So make sure they know about it when you drop your car off.

On a side note..
The first dealer could not even find solution for creaking noise in the back area(door seal)? They said they couldn't figure out the problem. The second dealer was aware of the problem and fixed it also. It is all luck of finding a right dealer lol

Usually Aircon off, and between revs of 2000-2500rpm and sometimes 2500-3000rpm it is heard. Sometimes can hear with aircon on.

Mine was fine immediately after the fix was installed, but now it comes and goes depending on the weather; more likely to occur when it's cold.

Hey all,

Took my car in to the dealership on monday because of a loud "wind/whirring" noise that would start from about 80km/h and up. Ive only had the car for about 5 months now and the problem started a month ago. The dealer had the car for 2.5 days and eventually diagnosed the problem correctly. They initially thought it was a bad seal near the window (almost directly behind the tweeter). Eventually they realized this wasnt it, taped every single body panel gap and drove and the noise was still there. Turns out, it was the drivers side wing mirror. They dismantled the mirror and installed some foam insulation (not sure where as its not visible). This resolved the problem. Apparently it was causing wind to deflect in an odd direction causing the wind/whistling/whirring noise.

Drove at 160km/h today without the noise returning so i think its safe to say its fixed.

Thank you so much for posting this!

This rattling noise was very difficult to diagnose and reproduce for the dealer. I gave them the service bulletin number from the OP and they applied the fix. I can absolutely confirm the problem has been fixed!

I had the SB applied back in May and have not had the problem since. Maybe the weight slipped back or forth on the vacuum line? I would take it back to the dealer and have them check it.

My car was built on 11/23/2013.

I opened up the hood and I had the first part but it seems a little above than what the pictures of other owners show.

I also don't notice any vibrations. Does this mean the issue was fixed on my car at the factory with a new hose? I saw a couple of comments on this thread mentioning this.

I just bought a 2014 335i a month ago and I have this buzz. I believe it was built Mid-2014. I have 399 miles on the odo when I brought it in.
Took it into the dealer on 11/10/14 and they applied the SIB without a problem. I even test drove it, and the car sounded so much better without the weird buzz.

Sadly, on 11/11/14, I got the call from them telling me they addressed my concerns but they accidentally backed another customers car into mine.

They offered to replace and repaint the bumper at their factory certified collision facility, and a few hundred dollars credit on BMW accessories. (I don't know what I want yet) but I'm pretty sad that my new car is getting a repainted bumper, but I guess it is what it is. It's a matter of sooner or later when somebody other than myself will mess up my car.
I do everything I can like parking really far away from careless people.

Anyways, I'm new here and I'm loving the information that is available by everyone contributing! Great post OP! Much appreciated!

But maybe it isn't what I think and maybe it is actually what you all are experiencing. Can anyone tell me if the sound they experienced sounded like it was coming from the top of the dash directly ahead of the driver? It's driving me nuts! Under light acceleration, it buzzes. As soon as I let off the gas, it stops.
BSM F30, any luck with your dash rattle? I think I'm experiencing the exact same thing so I'm curious if you ever found anything out. My rattle seems to also happen when driving over very bumpy surfaces.

Intermittent Buzzing Rattling Noise Inside Cabin Front Passenger Side

Has anyone experienced a relationship between the intermittent buzzing/rattle and driving over rough road or bumps?

I have an intermittent buzzing/rattle coming from the inside of my (6/13 June Build) 2013 335i Sedan that appears to be coming from the front passenger area.

I've pulled door panels off, center console panel off, under glove compartment panel off, and the only place left that I'm suspect of the noise is the front passenger seat underneath the center sport bolster the track it travels on, since it seems to make a nearly identical rattling noise when I tap on the underside of the center bolster on the seat frame.

The dealer claimed they did something to the seat to fix, but I'm still experiencing an intermittent inside cabin rattle. For me though, this rattle only appears to come about when travelling at slower speeds 2-40 MPH and when going over rough road or bump(s). I'm not 100% sure where this rattle/buzzing noise is coming from.

Appreciate your help, this intermittent noise is driving me crazy.

2014 BMW F30 335i xdrive rattling noise when accelerating

I have been experiencing rattling noise when accelerating. Seems to be coming in from inside the dash or engine bay cannot pin point exactly where. Annoying. Where you able to fix this kind of issue ?

Bulletin states that there is an intermittent whirring noise from the IHKA system when the engine is under load between 2,000 and 3,000 rpm, and sometimes higher RPMs.

Cause has been identified by BMWNA as vibrations coming from the A/C low-pressure hose, which are resonating into the heating and air conditioning system. (In my 335, this resonance could be heard in the cabin, and felt in the steering column.) The resonance will rattle/buzz whatever is loose in the dash.

BMW has developed a new mass weight kit to dampen vibrations in the A/C low pressure hose, being transmitted from the engine.

After experiencing this problem from the second week of owning my new F30, I had this kit installed today. Problem first manifested itself at about 200 miles, today I have over 4500 miles. When I applied moderate load to the engine in gears 1 to 4, there would be an unmistakable engine vibration right around 2500 RPM. My experience matches many of the videos posted by other Bimmerpost members.

My dealer was earnest in attempting to isolate the problem. First repair attempt, they initially found an engine cover loose. Second repair attempt they insulated the plastic engine cowling, nav screen, AC hoses, etc. Felt tape / wrapping was applied in multiple locations. 3rd attempt, after driving the car without the dash, and still hearing the noise, they isolated the problem to the AC hose. I can’t say enough about the terrific service efforts at the dealership. They worked tirelessly, including researching the problem from the various Bimmerpost threads I sent them. After communicating with their regional BMW reps, they were told a service bulletin was coming.

Bulletin was released this week, part ordered Monday, delivered Thursday, and installed today. Am very hopeful this will do the trick and I’ll finally be rattle/vibration/whirring noise free. Highlighted circle in the picture below shows the new kit installed on the A/C hose.

Drove the car about 15 miles today. The vibration/buzzing/whirring sound are definitely better – but need more drive time to fully determine if this new mass weight kit has cured all ills.
My dealer would've stopped investigating after driving the car and "not being able to replicate the issue." I'm glad your dealer took the time to investigate.

My 2013 BMW F30 335i xDrive sedan just returned from the dealer where the technician installed mass weight kit on AC low pressure hose as indicated in the SIB bulletin (many thanks for the initial post).

Well - the rattling /buzzing sound remains present but still elusive. So the root cause must be something else.

Symptoms:
- Originates from inside the dash
- Has a "zzz .... zzz .... zzzz' acoustic signature (I am not an audio engineer)
- More apparent when driving over frequent bumps
- RPMs: about 2.5K - 3K

The shop foreman took a drive with me to listen to the sound. It was raining and the sound did not occur, regardless of the payment surface. The shop foreman still approved the installation of mass weight kit.

I will continue to try and isolate the problem. Which of course began to occur the very next day after the rain ended.
