Car logs?
Do you keep one, and how so?
Thinking of a book or something to keep a log and copy of all paperwork for parts, mods, services etc.

I have a folder in my filing cabinet. Every time I get a receipt for service or parts, I stuff it in the folder. Easy peasy, takes almost zero extra time, and all the info is there if I need to look something up later. I don't have to go back and refer to it often enough to make it worth copying the data.

I start a file for every car I own in my file cabinet. I keep everything from my initial ordering paperwork, window sicker, to receipts for all service and modifications. I also use the iOS app called "Road Trip" to keep track of fuel mileage, service mileage, and expenses.

I had a stack that I kept for years with all the cars I've had. Just started with the F30 and I only have one lousy receipt . It also does help for resale.

Yep. Monthly tracking of mileage and tread wear, fuel receipts with mileage (for Fuelly), and total miles/days out of service. Most of this is done in Excel so I can crunch some reliability numbers.
Lease paperwork, service write-ups are kept in respective folders. I've noticed that when I combine both it gets too big for the folder to handle.

Perhaps I am being a bit obsessive, but I maintain an Excel spreadsheet of weekly tire pressure readings (including, of course, added air when necessary to maintain PSI at each tire) dating back to when I purchased the car.

I keep an excel spread sheet of several weekly data points.
1. Maintenance, 2. Type of fuel and location 3. Type of Weather car was driven in 4. Daily tire pressure readings 5. Start / stop cycles 6. Hours not garaged 7. Driving miles Breakdown:city/highway 8. Rpm over 5000 9. Minutes in reverse 10. Detailed logs of wash / wax including water ph levels. I know that's a little obsessive but I've done it with all my cars and at resale time, prospective buyer's jaws drop when I show them my data logs and than the run off calling me names like rainman and I end up just trading it in at the dealership. |
