---- actually it should say - not. Picked up my 328i which is supposed to have red piping accent on the seats but Mine does not have it. I do have the red stitching but not the piping. It is clearly shown in the BMW literature as red piping.

From what I read, it said leatherette with red accent, or dakota leather with red piping.

Maybe that is it - But what is the red accent ? I have no red accent - only red stitching.

that is likely the red (accent) stitching. Their descriptions are as clear as mud

For the seats the leatherette have red stitching (but not everywhere). for leather there is the red piping and more extensive red stitching. You can see the difference in the BMWUSA.com configurator.

Yes, that's how I found out was looking at differences in the configurator.

3 series brochure reads: black leatherette with Red highlight. Same description as leather, though the upholstery swatch for leather shows red highlight and stitching but the leatherette shows only red highlight. Picture on page 49 says "Shown here in black leatherette with contrasting red highlight piping..." Picture shows piping and stitching...

Leatherette is stitching, real leather is stitching + piping.
