The letter I received states if owners have less than one year of coverage left.

On that topic, my appointment is scheduled for next Thursday morning. I spoke to two different SAs before I was able to schedule, and both seemed to be at least somewhat familiar with what I was requesting. Hopefully that's a good sign. |

So who has the selective reading issue? Clearly not me. If you do not want something answered, don't post or end a sentence with a ? That is, if your selective reading issue made it this far. Last edited by Kabrich; 10-28-2016 at 06:10 PM.. |

Nobody has to pay $199 to swap out the combox.
They're just stating the obvious which is when your service contract is about to end, you'll have the option to pay to continue using the service. The cost is $199 per year. Umm, ok thanks BMW for muddying up the three options with a blurb that's neither here nor there. |

Well, showed up on time for my Saturday service appointment at Wide World BMW and was told to come back Monday.
Apparently they've done a few of these already, and they seem to have a different issue with every car. They won't do anything without the shop foreman working, and they won't do anything unless BMW NA is open as well in case something doesn't work and they need to call it in. They said plan to leave my car for at least 1 evening... maybe 2.

Got my car back after updating the combo box. Took them only half a day. In my case, they updated every module in the car so all the coding was wiped out, not the selective modules that some people experienced.
I immediately tested to make sure the bluetooth with the phone paired without a hitch and called BMW Assist to make a test call. All worked. Not sure if there is anything else that I need to test for. |

Good to hear. Hoping they wrap mine up in a day. Doesn't seem like it should require that much time if they just recode the entire car.

What happens to BMW Assist after December 31, 2016? After December 31, 2016, the underlying technology originally used for BMW Assist services in affected vehicles will be no longer supported. BMW Assist services will no longer be available. For customers choosing to retrofit their vehicles, updated technology will be installed so that BMW Assist services can continue to function for the remaining duration of the contract. Still need to decide if I actually want/need the retrofit...

So not only am I getting a run around on the issue with the website with BMW NA, but the dealership is tap dancing around this as well. Add on the squeaking break issues that I am having and it is starting to have me loose a lot of faith in BMW.

I just dropped mine off for the retrofit. I thought I wouldn't be the first one, but they said I was. Most people are choosing to waive it and get the money, according to my dealer.
Notes: *I have the contract through the end of 2018, so I have more than a year on the contract still. The service agent said I would be charged $199 for the retrofit, per the notice. I politely corrected him and said that $199 was to extend the contract for another year if you needed to, but I didn't need to. He apologized and admitted he hadn't really read the flyer too deeply. * Because this is the first one, they didn't have the parts on hand. I have a feeling that I may have this loaner for a few days. Oh well, it's nice driving a brand new car for a little bit. I'll be sure to report back on what coding was lost. |

They wiped everything in my M3. All custom coding, and even the tune and DCT tuning.
I'm back at the dealership after 15 miles. A bunch of DSC errors popped up on the drive home. Not sure if it's related but considering it drove fine before, I'm guessing it is related to the total recoding of the car. |

I'm most likely going to with the cash. My service is only good through August anyway.

Brought my 2013 in on Saturday morning, was told the tech's that do stuff other than maintenance don't work the weekends, SA just called and said everything is done but the car is still being programmed still. Should be done by tomorrow.
Not a big deal, just an FYI, looks like reprogramming everything is in my future.

I ended up in the same boat. Also the remote app didn't work anymore. Just dropped it off to the dealer today so they can sort these issues out.
