That's more like it..
So after having a new steering rack fitted this week after a manufacturing fault left it with a knocking sound and excess play I have finally experienced the car as BMW intended.
It's amazing what a slight bit of play can do. The car now feels likes different car. It wasn't that it was so bad before, it's just that it's so much better now!

Yes, although not got adaptive. I took it into the dealer a few weeks ago complaining of suspension knocking but they found nothing. A shame they didn't figure out the steering rack issue themselves but its fixed now.
I guess the thing I have learnt here is to not try and self diagnose too much. If I'd just said there was a knocking sound coming from the front of the car they may have checked around a bit more rather than just concentrating on the suspension.
