iDrive doesnt start for upto 1hr!

Hi all,

My iDrive (Pro nav) doesnt start with the car... it can take up to an hour of pressing buttons, screaming, crying before it springs in to life... when it does all is fine bar the voice control button on the steering wheel doesnt work.

Started doing this on Sunday AM.. any thoughts? (no recent updates/changes)

It's the change in the daylight saving time of 1 hour...

On a serious note, sounds like the system is corrupted and may need a reload if the software.

I've read that you can force a complete reboot of the iDrive system by holding down the Power/Volume control on the radio for 25 seconds (haven't tried it myself), and that has apparently cured a few funnies for people. Worth a try.

Do as @TonyS recommended. If that doesn't help, you likely have a bad harddisk in your Nav so take it in so they can swap it.

tried hard reboot a few times. No joy. Doesnt start up at all now.. Suspect HD failed.

I have a similar problem with the voice control button on the steering wheel not always working. My dealers response? Are you sure you have voice control!

Oh dear

Still, looking on the positive side, at least the dealer can't do the old "we can't replicate the fault" on you now.

New iDrive unit is ordered - should be here tomorrow - in the mean time I'm enjoying the raw power of my i30 1.6crdi Kia. The joys of hire cars.

Mine is in the garage too and I have a 116D courtesy car. I'm not sure that has any more power, it certainly doesn't feel like it.

Update: full unit replaced by BMW under warranty. They couldnt confirm - but strongly suspected HDD failure - the sealed unit goes back to BMW for investigation.

My iDrive has totally turned off twice during the last week whilst I was happily driving along so guess I need to take it in too for them to have a look to see if it needs the update. Did the online check and the last software was August 2011 apparently with my VIN but this is behind the actual version in the car!

Try checking the Global BMW site, rather than the UK site. Usually a newer version is usually posted here...

Right downloaded it, open contents of directory and copied onto new USB stick...bloody idrive doesn't recognise it!!!! Getting the right hump! And the car was running

It's a fat 32 formatted stick...it already came with this format and downloaded file from a 2012 MacBook Pro

I also bought the stick in the slim hope it could cure why my pro media doesn't give me the option of video in the other media tab when interrogating the stick! But again to no avail! Cheesed off!

Thanks, tried both sites with same results. Guess the database must have my VIN screwed up in it?

Have you access to a windows PC and download from there?
