Horn does not work AGAIN!
Took my 335 msport in for the horn and electric fan. They didn't find a code for the fan but they did find a blown horn fuse? repaired....now it has stopped working again? Also my 2013 328 luxury horn stopped working this weekend. WHAT THE FUCK! Oh and my 335 msport with 7,000 miles says it needs a quart of oil. Really? I understand BMW,as this is not my first rodeo, but I've never had to add oil this early in a brand new BMW? I've been loyal to my bimmers but I'm thinking Porsche these days.

One of my horns doesn't work. They don't list the horn fuse on the fuse sheet. Sounds like a clown horn.

yeah mine stopped working today after some lady damn nearly hit me (because she didn't check her blind spot)...fascinating issues with the horns.
So it's just a fuse?

Fuse replaced, all is well. Odd, how often are these fuses suppose to blow out?

I hardly honk at all, so it's not from use. It's some gremlin from within...I hope they sort it out soon, I'd rather not deal with the consequences... Seems to happens to any F30 style car too (not 328 or 335 or line specific).

Anyone use a cell phone charger and honk at the same time?
was just thinking..do any of you that have posted charge your cell phone in the car concurrent to honking on the horn?
I'm going to try this when I'm driving to see if it kills it...that's the only thing I can think of that would drain the system. Maybe the radar detector, but I don't think it draws as many amp's as my 2.0A droid charger....

After 4 months I have yet to use any charger in my car so I doubt that is the culprit. I just got back from my dealership and they replaced another fuse and think there is a grounding problem as the horn fuse is the only thing it controls by the schematic. Another dealer I spoke to on the phone thinks it could be a water issue shorting it out. I have noticed before it goes completely out the woofer horn goes first leaving the clown horn only. I was to leave it for a few days but I have a tinting appointment so I needed it. I have an hour travel so I'll wait another day and leave my 328 with no horn til there is a fix available. Strange it has happened to my 328 and 335 same time. Both 2013 and both with about 9k miles on them.

Mine stopped working a week ago, now it works again. It was -5 degrees over here, so maybe there was some water in the horn.
When it started to work again it first sounded like a duck. Today it works fine again |

why are they replacing the horn? I thought it was only the fuse...unless you guys had a horn blow too...(usually the fuse prevents that).

Didn't notice these horn threads in the past...I found three separate threads when I searched since mine just crapped out yesterday...only one tone...sounds super weak. I haven't even popped the hood or checked fuses yet. Pretty annoying that something so simple seems to be such a common problem. As much as I love my car, things like this make me miss owning a Honda...

HI, i´m having the same issue on my 320i luxury; i was trying to avoid a passenger bus to hit me, and suddenly the horn started to sound as a suzuki maruti. Can you show us a picture of what fuse to replace and where is located?
thanks |

Continuously replacing fuses will be a futile endeavor. The fuse will only blow if the current draw exceeds its rating. The issue is likely one of three things:
1. Bad horn. 2. Bad harness (intermittent short). 3. Underated fuse. Whatever you do, don't try swapping a larger fuse for the one that's blowing. No telling what you might fry. Regarding the oil, I think I was in the 3K range when I had to add a quart. I'm just a tad over 8K now and I'm due for another. Not all that crazy. I probably just need to run it a little harder... |

So for those who had the horn fuse replaced, did you do it or have the dealer do it? I went to the car to try to replace it myself and I only saw the "bring to service icon" in the fuse schematics as seen below from another thread about horn fuses. Does anyone know where the fuse is? Is it inline next to the horn in the bumper? Photo or a quick DIY instructional would be great. Service is closed toady and I'd like to take care of it quickly if it's an easy fix.
Unfortunately, I learned the horn wasn't working yesterday when some idiot decided he wanted to jump into my lane. I went on the defensive and tried to honk the horn. After I realize the horn didn't work and he had no clue I was there, I had to quickly jump on the brakes and swerve. He realized at the last second that I was there and swerved back into his lane. Had I not preemptively moved over and jumped on the brakes, he would have hit me. I think there's a reason horns are considered a "safety" equipment. |
