Build Confusion
In the main sticky up there, life is great:
"First and foremost, these lines are not the only 3 cars we can choose from. A 3-Series can be ordered as is and optioned how you want to option it, just as has always been with a BMW. These 3 "Lines" are just extra options on top of what is normally offered." That sticky also shows a "standard" 3er alongside the 3 lines, image included, looking like a 4th option. But many of the posts below, and the UK Configurator site, seem to indicate the opposite, i.e., that the "lines" dictate which options are available. For Example, no saddle interior unless you order the "Luxury" line, etc. Can you build the car to your own specs or not? |

Maybe in Germany (and elsewhere), but US options are very restricted depending on what line you select, including the Base "no Line" model.
Lines restrict your choices in:
In addition, Sport suspension or M-Sport adjustable suspension is only available on Sport Line. Forget it on a Base model. Further, there are other restrictions on 328i: - No wood on base model - No option for 19" staggered wheel/tires - Xenon are extra and requires Premium Pkg From the UK configurator, looks like they do not have the restrictions based on engine selection like we do in the US (they also get the 320d). Interesting that the only UK model available with Sport Line is 320d and 335i comes only in the Luxury Line. |

I actually really like the design of the 18" sportline wheels 397...just wish the rear freaking tire was 255 wide 225?

I really think BMW should be a little more MINI in their approach to the 3er like they used to do.
There should be a Sport Package with the sport suspension, sports seats and different alloys with an upgrade option to the adaptive suspension. This should be available on any model, not just with the Sport line. I don't actually want an anthracite headliner and extra red splashes around the interior. A sport package is what makes a BMW a BMW. I'm not looking for tons of mix-matching, just some reasonable match-ups. I like the Luxury line with beige leather and the dark wood trim. Or I can handle the base with a premium package and a sport package without a line. I get the intent with the lines but they fail in execution because of how limiting it is. The 3er is a near-luxury european sports sedan. Allow me to get near luxury and sporty.

Right.
So the new Canadian specs are released and the 335 comes "standard" as a Sport-only model. Anybody understand how to spec this beast outside "lines"? |
