Lightbulb Retrofit Park Distance Control

Is it possible to retrofit PDC on a 2012 328i Sedan? I'd prefer front and back, but will gladly "settle" for just the back. I tried searching around but could only find links to the E90.

Thanks!

There is retrofit kit but it's for EU only, so far.

It's the thing I miss most from my Volkswagen CC. That and the aluminum trim in the interior (which I would like to retro.)
Maybe it will be ported to US!

I was thinking about this yesterday. I decide to skimp on the parking package but I really really realllllllly want the backup camera. Any ideas? I'm sure with coding and the camera it's possible?

Fitting the camera will be no issue, getting it coded in is the problem I guess.

I installed a reverse cam in my Merc C class, but the COMAND nav has an easily accessable engineers menu to turn it on.

I've asked my dealership and there's a retrofit for rear PDC. No retrofit for rear camera though!

I just called my local dealership and the parts guy had never heard of a PDC retro kit for F30s and couldn't find it in his inventory system. Boo :-(

I called my dealer today and the parts guy said that he knew nothing about the retrofit of the PDC??? Strange because this is straight from BMW Canada's website so I assume it is offered and he was just not aware. The 2013 BMW pricing guide has it as a $450 option. Anybody else had it done yet?

"Park Distance Control, rear
Easy parking even in the tightest of spaces. Distances between the vehicle and obstacles are measured by ultrasound and indicated acoustically. In conjunction with a navigation system or BMW Radio Professional, the distances also shown the Control Display.
Installation duration on request"

Got this off ETK, still new to this, only manage to get EURO RHD... but i don't think it make huge difference with US/EU LHD vehicle.. it's PDC, the sensor should be mounted on the same position

(You'll need #1 from the above list)

And the center console trim with button for camera. Could not find this part.

In addition to these, you need wiring harnesses and a dealer willing to code.

BTW, these parts are for a US spec car. Possible part #'s are same for Euro. Confirm.

New bumper(s) alone will make this cost ineffective.

U don't need a new bumper, official installation instructions from the rear PDC retrofit kit calls for drilling holes

So would I need all of the parts linked - or just the camera in link 1 if you already have front and rear PDC

U need all the parts, & possibly a new FEM unit cos the camera control box is linked to the FEM.
It'll be a major major task.

I don't see how the FEM varies for camera versus non camera cars.

Am I missing something?

I agree this is a huge undertaking.

The camera module is linked to the FEM as well as the REM. The camera button itself is linked to the ICM & not directly to the cam module.

I am interested in doing this too. Can someone with rear camera take some pictures of the modules inside the "battery compartment" ie right side of the trunk?

Aren't the part interchangeable with 5 series? Seems like you could try to cheaply buy the parts from a salvage yard without spending 1k on something that might not work. We need a guinea pig to try this out.

After driving my car for 3 months I am not sure if you really need the PDC or rear camera in the F30. The side rearview mirrors are much bigger than in my previous 2008 E90 335xi so backing up safely is now much easier. Using all 3 rearview mirrors should be just fine for backing up if you are slow and careful......my wife's Acura MDX on the other hand needs it's rear view camera to backup safely!
