AC LCI Ambient Lighting

Hey guys, I recently upgraded my F30 to have the ambient lighting around the aircon and stereo controls.

I thought I would share some links for where I got my y cable and upgraded trim panel from as it took me a while to find these parts and I really wanted to do it ASAP.

I am sure that you can get these parts from BMW Australia, but my experience so far is that they charge like a wounded bull!

I had a lot of support from a member in Germany whose forum name is 'Dante', he can supply the y cable (at a very reasonable price) to give the new panel some juice. I am not very handy when it comes to wiring so it was easier to get him to send one to me.

I got my replacement trim panel with the LED light from a seller on ebay from America:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BMW-Origi...8AAOSwgyxWVC7t

Even with exchange rate it came out cheaper for me than getting it here.

There are plenty of pages on the forums that show you how to remove trim .

Anyway , hope that helps anyone that was thinking of doing it. Once I have the two parts it took me 20 mins to swap it over and put the trim back, so if I can do it, anyone can!!!!

I'm gonna try to add a strip of light underneath where you have the blue accent piece. Just waiting on some stuff to come in

Well got my posi taps today and tapped into the y cable. For some reason it didn't work. That's my setup. Not sure why it's not working

1. Check the polarity
2. Switch from sports to classic or vice verser.

Works with the add a circuit. I'm thinking of just getting some wire and running it from the trim to the rear fuse box

Anywhere else to source out the Y cable?
And how does it connect to the unit?

It's extremely easy to make. Just order the kit from get BMW parts and they have everything needed.

You can order the parts locally from the dealer, I think it came to $60 for all of it.

The Y Cable taps into the existing LED power module & splits into two connection, one for the LED light & the other for the LCI trim.

Here's some pics of the part number.

This was a bit too long, If I could redo it again, I would shorten the harness by half.

Trust me , it is really easy to install once you have all the parts. Once I had the y cable the actual installation (trim removal and adding the ycable) takes 15 mins.

If you are worried about making the cable, buy it from the guy in Germany'Dante', i know some people can make then themselves, i am not handy enough.

Looks good, I like the glow. Can you take a picture of how you end up running power?

Thanks. Here's a different design I was thinking of. That's just extra wire at the end. Only problem is that it doesn't look too good in the day. I'm trying to think of new places to put this though

Out of town right now but I'll take a pic when I'm back. I tapped into fuse 146 but I'm gonna be using that for my wireless receiver for my exhaust. I need to find another fuse to tap into now

Loving the look so far, yeah I was thinking the same about how it would look during the day, i wonder if you can mount it behind the trim?

How thick is the cable?

Hi guys, just got notice of this thread.
You can find more details and a How-To in post #2 in my thread here: link
There is a complete parts list for those who'd like to build the adapter themselves. As Dave said, I also supply readily assembled adapters. Just PM.

The dash trim is just clipped in, like in the video. Just grab it firmly below the Nav screen and pull. It will come of, just be carful with the wiring behind.

Thanks and glad you all like the mod!
