Car Insurance is Killing me!!!

Hello All,

I have a 6 month policy with progressive that will renew in 1 month. It is going up from $1615 to $2700 paid in full. This is for 2 cars with full coverage that are driven maybe 6000-7000 miles a year each. I have great credit (over 800), own a home, steady employment, gated community, veteran, no tickets or accidents for over 7 years. I guess it's just because I live in South Florida. Nobody has insurance or a license down here and the poor "honest" people pay for it up the ass!!!!

been a big topic of discussion recently for my business, we have a van down in florida and we’re gonna move to another location because it’s next to impossible to insure it for any amount that makes sense. our insurance company informed us this is due to hurricane activity of last few years.

South FL has one of the highest % of uninsured motorists in the US. FL allows up to 2 year vehicle registration, so some people will get insurance for six months or so, let it lapse and roll the dice for the rest of the duration. When it comes time to renew the registration they simply rinse and repeat.

Change companies. I recently left USAA because their rates kept increasing, but surely they would be better than Progressive.

One more reason to get out of Dodge. I pay $697 a year, full coverage, $1k collision deductible.

Have you tried getting a quote from Costco's auto insurance (Connect)?

Yep there are a lot of uninsured motorist down here.... Never felt that confident.

I'm doing that. I flip flop from progressive to Usaa because they gave the best rates. I was with Usaa for over 10 years but around 2020 they went crazy. Right now I got a quote from Ussa for $2000. That is a $700 savings over progressive....Looks like I'm gonna have to bite the bullet.

That's because of the hurricane moratorium most likely. It's likely you can't make any insurance changes in most of the state right now.
