340i rear-ended, now car won't start, bunch of errors
Well, I was driving on 290 outside Chicago yesterday and got rear-ended by a kid in a CRV at a pretty good speed. It's a really excellent condition manual 340i I bought off of another user here just 9 months ago.
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1970528 Obviously it's a huge bummer but everyone was okay so that's the important thing. Other than the back bumper cover, trunk lid, and taillights I don't see any obvious damage. However, immediately after the crash, the car would not start at all and is throwing a bunch of errors: - Restraint system - Driver restraint system - Adaptive headlight malfunction - Increased steer. effort: Drive moderately - Chassis stabilization: Drive moderately. Now, my seatbelt tensioner is locked up so I'm assuming that's the restraint system (my airbags did not deploy btw). Any ideas on why the car now has an adaptive headlight malfunction and the other two errors? Going to take it to the dealer but I'd like to have some idea of what's wrong since I'm sure his insurance company is going to try and pay for as little as possible. Before the accident, everything was working perfectly. |

Don’t have a direct answer, but there is one or two rear crash sensors. Did you check with ISTA+ what hidden codes you have? ISTA may also let you reset some of these sensors or run safety ABL routines. At times seemingly unrelated errors are caused by one component, often because of the various networks.

Don't under estimate the damage which could be behind the bumper. Trunk floor panel is meant to crumple and depending on severity will have to be replaced. It might look ok on the outside but most likely it's not. Had a friend in similar situation. Rear ended at a light.
I would recommend Knauz bmw - they have a giant body shop in the back and do good work. And will coordinate with bmw mechanical repairs next door. |

there is a possibility that the adaptive light motors inside the headlight got damaged from the force of the impact, but I wouldn't bet on that until the car has no other errors associated with the crash, as others have said it could be an indirect consequence of other electronic system issues.

I am sorry to hear of your accident, but no human loss is key. You already have the best approach to deal with dealers: car was perfect before accident. Do not touch or try to fix anything, or even share your evaluation with dealer. Best of Luck.

I was rear ended, car wouldn’t start. Turned out to be the EKP/LPFP 20A mini style fuse was blown. Just lift up and out trunk floor panel. Photo indicates fuse location.

Thanks for all the responses. The BST definitely blew and disconnected the battery, so I’ll have to have it towed to a shop to get that fixed (I’d do it myself but I want to make sure the other driver’s insurer covers it)
