Has anyone completed the adaptive headlight retrofit using brand new driver control modules?
I'm at the very end of the project, and nearing my wit's end. I have one headlight good to go in all aspects. The second headlight fails to turn on the DRLs, and the corona/eyebrow doesn't light up with the parking light either (probably not the low beam either, hard to tell). I have a fault for "Adaptive Headlight Failure" with the arrow-light symbol... Worst of all this takes up the entire kombi display and doesn't revert to just being the little yellow triangle. The problematic headlight has a brand new control module installed. The working headlight has a used module I bought with the headlights and other parts, it's obviously used but works great. Swapping modules causes the symptoms to swap so I am fairly certain it's an issue with the module. But it's brand new! All I've been able to do is Google for other experiences, and I've found none with the F30 or F series. E90 cars seem to have gone through similar (modules failing from water, then DIY replaced), though it isn't entirely certain from what I've read. From there I've gotten the idea to "flash the ECU" that drives the lights, to update it or something like that. I'm working with Shawn to iron out some extremely frustrating issues I'm having with E-Sys, where I can't read my FA when connected via Gateway URL which apparently is a requisite for ECU flashing. So I don't know what will come of flashing, with my luck it probably isn't what I need to do. Can anyone offer advice or comment whether I'm going down the right path? Ideas? I'm stuck and about to go to the dealer as a last ditch effort. Please help me avoid that. |

I'm still unable to read FA when connected via URL, so I coded adaptive lights out of my VO and FDL coded out AHL. With that I have fully functional static xenons, which is okay but obviously not good enough. Ill continue to work at it.

I figured it out. I'm a little embarrassed but hey, if it helps anyone else avoid frustration then it wasn't in vain.
A user on Bimmerfest jogged my memory that I never VO coded the car again after installing the new module. I made a false assumption that I could pop it in and it would work. I guess I'm still used to older cars, learning the new world of software. I VO coded then FDL coded the adaptive items again, and it's all good to go now. |
