i am looking for a wide angle lens for my nikon D60. I have spotted two lens, one is Sigma AF DC 10-20/4-5.6 EX Lens for Nikon Cameras NEW

The Tokina is a fisheye, not a wide angle.

I have the Sigma 10-20 mm lens and love it!! The photo below was taken with the 10-20 mm lens for perspective.

have you looked at tamron or nikkor?

i've heard many less than favorable review for past sigma lenses.. not too much info on tokina.

have heard by many people and review sites that getting good glass is important - if you dont want to pay a premium for brand name nikkor - then tamron makes good lenses as well..

That image was made in post processing. The original image(s) may have been made using the lens you claim, but the HDR and tone mapping are quite evident.

Why must you point out that this was made with HDR? HDR isn't a crime Everytime I post an HDR there is a race for the first person to point it out. In my original post I said it is for perspective. If this was a black and white photo would you tell everyone it is a black and white photo?

The image itself is an outstanding image - you did a great job. But the way you present it makes it sound like the lens is spectacular and did that amazing work. The lens was part of it, clearly a sharp lens. But what really makes that image is the result of tone mapping and some HDR magic.

Thanks for the photo compliments TurboFan. Sometimes when I look at a lens, I see the way the lens distorts the image. Sometimes it's cool and sometimes it's not. But when I said perspective I mean the way the car looks by the lens with slight distortion. When at 10 mm the lens make the image look different. To whoever is looking to buy the lens.. good luck. Playing with lenses can be fun!

Are you referring to the way the car looks to be as long as a stretch limo? That's the case with ultra wide angle lenses. There is simply no way around the physics.

In my opinion, any image with an ultra wide needs *something* in the foreground to make it interesting. In fact, if it's even in the middle ground, it can get lost. You did a nice job with the composition to get something that transitioned from fore to middleground, keeping the eye engaged.

I agree with you. The lens if you don't use it right can make something nice look really weird. Trust me there are many images I throw out because of this. If I'm doing a shoot I play with the shots using different lenses.

Here's another image of a GT3 RS Porsche I took the other day with the Sigma 10-20. So far I've been happy with the quality of the lenses that I've bought. I've read elsewhere that others complain of the quality or front/back focus issues.

Just goes to show that no piece of gear is the most important thing in a photo - the most important part of the photo is the composition and how you capture the available light. Good gear only makes it easier - it's kinda like cheating!
