Question on BMW * rated tires

Hey,

I am about to purchase a tire summer set for my Signature Wheels that are being produced. The car is 2014 428ix.

I am looking for the following sizes, based on the spec of the rims I ordered:
- 235/35/20 for the front
- 265/30/20 for the rear

My primary choice was Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Unfortunately, I couldn't find BMW * rated set in the aforementioned sizes. Only regular ones. On the other hand, there's Michelin Pilot Super Sport available in both sizes that has BMW homologation.

Now, the question is: Is it better to go with older design (PSS) that has BMW certification or there's a minimal difference and I should go with PS4S? I don't drive the car much on the race track, but I tend to ride really fast on the roads that involve corners and different incline. I am not sure I should care about "*" if I am not running run-flats already.

My dealership is currently having a promo that offers a 3-year warranty on tire damage at no additional cost when star rated tires are mounted at their garage.

IMO, the differences between * or "regular" are likely to be too small to be noticeable, or significant.

If you're not turning in a lease car there no need to use the star rating as a factor when buying the tire.

Star or no star the PS4S is better than the PSS.

As you are in Europe, you should go with the Continental Sports Contact 6.

In the just released prestigious German Autobuild Summer 2018 Ratings, they beat the MPS4S. They have been #1 for 3 years in a row, beating MPSS and MPS4S since 2016 test.

Unfortunately, Americans cannot get them in most BMW sizes without connections.

You would have no issues in Europe.
