I've now moved on from my almost 9-year old 320i; I wanted a G20 but the steep pricing was too much to take.

Much of what I have to say will run counter to the accepted wisdom on the forum.

1. This F30 was the most reliable car I have ever owned, despite all the scare-mongering about the N20 engine. The only ever repair I ever needed was the well-known problem with stone damage to the air-con parts.

2. After the BMW service pack ran out, I regularly had it serviced at a local non-specialist mechanic across the road. I am convinced that they did a better job than any BMW dealer (and even some BMW indy specialists). Trouble-free motoring for the past 4 years.

pardon, but one is compact crossover another is compact executive class.
There are cheaper BMWs than G20. To compare 408 with BMW is an X1.

Yes, I checked my original quote from Stellantis Manchester, 6K miles:

Downpayment: £1812.78
Monthly: 23 X £201.42 = £4633
Total = £6445 for 24 months, inclusive of my preferred choice of Premium Red Metallic (usually this is a cost option at £850)

I got around £7k for selling my F30, so that covered the down-payment, and left me some spare cash for flights to SE Asia in the summer.

Unfortunately, this deal is no longer available. A blogger put it up on YouTube and the surge in demand created a huge waiting list (I got mine factory delivered within 8 weeks, but later on, people were being told 3-6 months delivery).

NB: the last time I sold my E46, I endured 18 months with another brand of car before I rushed back and bought the F30. Hopefully, I will be more patient with Peugeot for the 24 months lease period!

I be honest, I never looked in to leasing my self as always preferred to purchased outright but never new. Looking at bmw leasing yeah don't think is in my budget. I suppose if one don't mind different brand and smaller engine is not a bad price. I'm fortunate enough that I am able to repair most of things my self as car gets older I don't have garage fees to pay, maybe will look in to bit more once I'm not able to do this.

Now I am looking at changing again, everything BMW is super expensive or I don't like it.
G20 is expensive.
2 series Coupe, too small. (Sat in one at a dealer)
4 series don't like it and expensive.
Nothing else BMW that I like or in my price range.

Now looking at a Merc CLA coupe AMG line now, something under 12 months old with up to 5,000 miles.

Enjoy your new car. BMW's are nice but they are not the only car brand.

Yes, thank you! This is the first time I am leasing, I've always been a cash buyer too.

But in this period of high interest rates, I could not stomach taking almost £50k out of cash ISA to buy a 320i MSport with Tech Pro, Driving Assistant etc.
It would £2500 per year in lost interest alone! I would have to put back retirement for 2-3 years if the ISA was gone.

So that is a 9 + 23 month deal @ 6k p/a. Presumably including VAT? With no maintenance included?

If that is including VAT, then even with the fairly big down payment and only 6k a year, that is very cheap in 2024. £167.85 net a month is 2016 money.

Leasing is great as long as you realise in 2 years you will have to re-think, or do it again.

Having leased cars for the past 20 years (for business use and tax & VAT bensfits), there are only 2 reasons why manufacturers flog off cheap lease deals on a 24 month contract:

Either they have over-produced them and can't flog them retail, or they have calculated that in 2 years the used prices will be high. I am guessing the former at the moment.

We seem to have gone back to pre-covid rules applying again. No bad thing in my book!
