I'm happy to report that I received my car back this afternoon. The install + programming took 2.5 days. As others have mentioned, the car is much more fun to drive. I left the dealership and hit the interstate like a maniac. I flew by a dude driving a Porsche Boxster convertible in the left lane and I could tell that he was surprised. Of course, the 6MT is much more fun to drive!

The M Performance Exhaust has a meaner growl, even at idle. As others have mentioned, the burbling is deeper and longer. A whistle is very noticeable in the cabin.

So far I've only driven in Sport mode since picking up the car. I'll give Comfort a try after dinner.

Thanks everyone for the advice and helpful info!

Got it back today (8AT)

Power change is there for sure, but not "amazing"... 0-60 change is not as noticeable as the new stronger hwy power is (50-70 pulls).

Lots more overrun burble now.

Overall it's about what I expected and I am happy

Do you notice any steering change? We may have to start a poll on this since some feel it and some do not.

Also, there seems to be a big difference between the 8AT and 6MT.

I agree with you, the hwy power was greatly needed, but anything over 80 it still lags behind in my opinion (after driving on the freeway tonight).

I’ve been following everyone’s DME experiences closely the past couple days. I had placed the order with the only BMW dealer on island last week and was actually scheduled for install today. The main parts guys I was dealing with was great but some of the other guys at the dealership made me question having them do the install and going with JB1 instead. I ended up canceling the install today.

However, after reading about everyone getting their cars back, the difference in performance and a phone call from the BMW parts department, Ive decided to let them do the install. Im dropping the car off first thing Friday morning. I will keep everyone updated, and I will post up a quick post install review.

Assuming your traveling in 8th gear at 80 mph, w/o a downshift of the trans to a lower gear, what were your expecations for acceleration? That may factor into your feeling it lacking. Try to click down a gear or induce a dowshift with the throttle and see if that alters your perception.

I don't have the kit yet, just curious.

Depends on whether you have them install your engine cover and updated lower intake housing, plus the sticker/decals as well as the software update. I did everything myself except for the software update, and drive-in/drive-out time was about 2.5 hours, but I was only charged 1 hour's labor. There were some prep procedures they had to go through and then they test-drove the car to be sure everything was working ok.

Count on an extra 30 minutes to an hour labor if they do the aforementioned hardware installs.

Nope, we all rushed to get it installed. We need someone who is patient and will take their time get the dyno before and after.

I have to disagree, I have 8AT and pre PPK I always felt the car seemed overwhelmed beyond 80, now its a different story. I did some 3 figure runs last night and that feeling I used to have, its gone now

I've had my car back for a full day now. All I can say is wow, this is how it should have come. I've also got the performance exhaust. I didn't get a good feel for my car before mods, but I did drive a few stock 335i sport models at the Performance Center in SC. They have nothing on this. It's night and day.

Ready for the break in period to be over!

Well, I am in IRAP right now, AGAIN. The dealer had to bring someone up from BMW NA to help with the downloads or whatever else needed to be done, I have no idea... just want the car back. The have had it for 7 days now.

+1 The highway improvement is pretty significant. I have the speed alarm set to alert me when I exceed 80MPH to help me to avoid tickets and on my morning commute today I heard the chime at least 20 times. For example, 60MPH and 3000RPM (3rd or 4th gear on 6MT, I can't remember) and just the slightest push on the accelerator really pushes me back in the seat...give some real gas and I'm flying past 80MPH in no time, and hits 100 effortlessly. Even cruising in 5th or 6th at 55+MPH and it's quite a bit more responsive. (this all in Sport/Sport+, can't comment on Comfort)

ya i've read those posts. I can say for sure that Sport mode steering feels the exact same.... Comfort is a big fat "maybe". It might be a touch heavier, but it might just be me thinking it into existence.

I paid about 200 out the door for install. .25 hours labor per the BMW sheet. and 125 coding fee that they add on which is also noted on the pdf. Took about 2.5 hours for the whole thing, most of it was download time. They don't charge you 2.5 hour labor they just wrap it under the coding fee. I admire those who install the parts themselves, but i'm not sure how much money it saves so long as you stick to the .25 labor for non DME cars as per the bmw pdf.

im in the no steering change camp. Everything feels the same to me. Comfort mode seems a hair stiffer, but nothing earth shattering. Plus, given that BMW was trying their best to hype this with things like "emotionally enticing exhaust note" if they spent the time to alter the steering for sure they'd mention it and say something like "orgasmic steering enhancements"
