Just purchased Pirelli Sottozero Serie II Run-flats with 17" Dai Target rims. Nice tires in the dry, quiet and comfortable. Hopefully they preform well in the snow.

I believe a replica set of wheels would be around $500-600 a set (no tires)

therefore, it takes about 5 yrs to recoup your investment (replica set of wheels). If you are leasing for 4 yrs, then you will come out a bit ahead. However, if you don't have excess W&T warranty and the wheels are chipped upon returning the vehicle, BMWFS can always find a way to make you pay for the damage wheel(s).

I went non RFT and got a Conti Kit (goop and compressor-$75 i think).

Everyone read Peter Cheneys article in Nov 7 Globe and mail about winter tires vs a/s. Explains it all.

Quick update...

I have an appointment this saturday at SimplyTire to get my winter tires. I went with the following option - Conti Barum Polaris 3 98H XL- $1,120.00. This package includes the replica M5 wheels, plus installation, balancing, etc.

I was really inclined towards the LM60's but then just considering how I'm always stuck in traffic where it feels like I'm always driving at an avg. of 15-20 kph, I decided to not go for the sports performance winter tires. The Conti Barum are supposed to be solid winter tires and do a good job of being just that - Winter tires and are supposed to be quiet and comfortable. Will post pictures on Saturday/Sunday after the works done.

Awesome, please do post pictures when you get a chance. I was also considering going with SimplyTire, but with the Blizzak WS70. Would be interested to see how the M5 replicas look like.

Got the winter set

Here are the pictures of my tire set up. I made a mistake in my previous post. I did not go ahead with the M5 replicas but a different BMW replica wheels (I have attached the M5 replica rims picture for reference). Below are few pictures of my set up. Apologies for the poor picture quality. The total for my set up cost me $1380 (with tax and service cost).

The ride on the tires seems to be fine. They are quiet and comfortable. I actually liked it better than the run flats that came with the car. In hindsight, I should have gone with the 18'' option as they just look better on the car (or maybe I'm just used to them and it will take me some time to get used to the 17'')

Allen and his team at SimplyTire were great and it took about 40 minutes for the whole process. They are very busy during this time and having an appointment helped.

Looks good! Where did you get the replica rims? I'll eventually need to get a set of rims for the all seasons when it's time to swap them back on.

SimplyTire. They have more options. If you email Allen (his email is on their website), he will send you pictures of various options.

You don't like the OEM rims on the F30? I'm contemplating spending money on rims in summer or getting some other mod's done.

Ah..I'm out in Calgary.

I have the luxury line and I find the multi spoke rims look too busy. I put my winters on them so I'll need something for summer.

Looks great!

Were the M5 replicas the same cost as the ones you chose?

Yeah they were. I think the M5 replicas also come in two colour options. Gun metal and black.

Looks great. I should have got 18''too as now I'm seriously contemplating getting the M brakes next year. Maybe will get them over the summer and then try selling my winter 17'' and get a new 18'' set up.

Yes these are Hankooks. I should pay more attention to what the dealer is actually telling me when selecting options .

I did get Hankooks, which I realized only after the tires were actually on the car (and I felt felt a little dumb). I guess I looked at the wrong tires on the list when Allen from SimplyTire was telling me the options I had available. I went by his best value for the money kind of analysis and review.

Noise - No difference from the RF's that came with the car

Mileage - I'm still getting the same gas mileage as the All season RF's (10.2-10.1 km/l). It will be interesting to see how it changes over the course of the winter.

actually im pretty sure over the course of the winter u wont see much of a change in terms of gas mileage, when i switched to my winters i went from the stock 19"403M to my current 18" set up, my mileage went down, due to the fact that runflats are a tad heavier then regular tires and my 19s are 6-7lbs heavier than my 18s per corner. i was getting 10.5-11 on my 19s right now im at 9.5-9.9

Does anyone know what the rim specification for the F30 is? I see tons of rims on kijiji for the earlier generation bmw's but not sure if they would fit. Can someone who knows give me a summary what to look for with respect to offsets etc etc?
Thanks in advance
