I used 3M crystaline. 70% on the front doors, 50% on the back doors and rear window. I do notice it at night, but visibility is still good. The 3M does a really good job of rejecting the heat and UV.

I'm in Ventura County, I don't know anyone out east. I just got an recommendation from the dealer. They did a great job as they do a lot of BMW's there.

Kids like to play with the door shades and over time they'll likely break them.

Thanks for the input. I was thinking about the durability as well and had the same thought that the shades will degrade and break over time. Thanks for the tip about ceramic shades. I will definitely look into this. I believe this option does not interfere with the antenna in the window.

I saw a video on the. E90 with the same. This is a deal breaker for me as the rear shade is either all on or off. I am not getting much for paying so much for a button in the arm console and two wiper blades that haul up a screen. If it was adjustable i might have considered it.

I think the tint will look nicer and i am now leaning towards that. In my current car the sunroof has a dark tint and i never get burn or feel overexposed in the harsh aussie sun (remember we have the hole in the ozone layer above us to contend with).

I think all the great feedback here has saved me a bit of money and i will go for the tint instead. I reckon the rear passengers should get that same sunroof feeling of have light over their heads without the burn

Btw will the process of tinting damage the antenna or affect it? I saw videos where they use heat to complete the adhesion.

Really appreciate the input fellas!

A bit of a drive for you, but I highly recommend Ken Luna at DP Tint:

1542 E Edinger Ave Ste F in Tustin - (714) 542-8432.

He's done 4 cars for me including my 2013 335i - he does great work...

I would go with Tint but at the end of the day is a matter of choice.

I like neither especially blinds which make a car look like a hearse, a tart's car or a Tokyo taxi.

Save your money and get some good tints on your face. I never use these either.

Contact Unique Auto Films in Tarzana

They did one heck of a job on my E90 M3. They're definitely reasonably priced.

I picked up a optioned out car off the lot (it was the only 335 sport line they had) and it came with the blind/shades. You can't really tell they're there unless you've got them open. Kids in the back seat will tend to play with them (I have nephews).

Honestly, I rarely use the electric one for the back glass (because I forget I have it), but it is pretty cool and helpful.

Long story short, I got tint even though I have the shades. Take that how you want...

I have the rear and side shades on my E90. I don't understand why you would want the rear shade anywhere but fully up or down. If it was partially up, the bar at the top would block your view. This makes no sense to me. Also, someone mentioned them deteriorating over time. I've had my car for 2 years and the shades look as good as new. I bought them because I have a toddler in a rear facing seat. If I had to do it again, I'd probably get a fairly light tint to save money. Last comment, the biggest issue with the shades is they don't cover 100% of the windows and the sun still can get in the passenger's eyes.

The biggest thing that holds me back from the tint are all the stories I've seen (and friend of mine) whose Comfort Access no longer works as well, due to tint.

This makes no sense as comfort access control does not go through the windows, but the doors.

There are antennas inside the car, and the signal has to pass through the glass to get to them. There are several threads on this topic, with users who have struggled with CA after they got tint.

Odd, given the comfort access antennas are in the door/outside of the passenger compartment. See, e.g., click.

CA must also need to coordinate with the interior antennas.

Don't forget most tint shops will tint the car all around for a cheaper fee than those build in shades. This gives the passengers, and even you protection from the sun behind the car. We all know how uncomfortable that can be. If it's not illegal where you live... i see it as an easy choice

Have a pic? I'd like to see 50%... (w & w/o shades would be amazing)

thanks!

Simply, they got the wrong tint. Use an extruded (such as Madico Charcool) or a ceramic film (such as 3M crystalline) and you'll have no signal degradation from either CA or your stereo.

Plus film will protect your interior from harmful UV rays that will age the interior.

I believe it.

Can you recommend a clear (or nearly) tint with outstanding UV/heat rejection, that won't interfere with CA?

I have 70% 3M Crystaline on the front windows. Visibility is great and the Heat/UV rejection is pretty good. I have no problems with CA with this tint.
