F30 vs MB CLA
I dont know about you guys but the CLA is one ugly car both inside and out, given that it is said to be a competition for the 3/4 series it does not appeal to me. What do you guys think because as I see it, it is one UGLY car which looks more like a cls that was smashed from both ends into a more compact coupe.

I really think that the CLA is not a direct competitor to the 3/4 series,
instead to the 1/1M/2 series. I just can't wait till the new 2 series comes out with probably an updated N55 Engine and see how the CLA would fare against~

Whatever it is a competitor for it is not something I or anyone with common sense would want to buy, its just sooo ugly.

The CLA isn't a 3-series direct competitor....
The Top of the line CLA (AMG)'s price will be in the 3-series range/territory yes.... so it will chew on some "blind" customer, or "smart" depending on how you see it... because yes the CLA is one ugly car, but damns the early reviews makes it a 135is killer....

Only directly competes with the a3 sedan. Would have to wait for a 2GC to get comp from BMW (don't know when that's happening). Even then the bimmer would be longitudinal RWD, so not sure how direct the competition would be there.
I guess it also competes with an Acura ILX!!

There's more to a car than the frantic 0-60mph dash. Yes, the CLA45 AMG is fast and holds the road like shit to a blanket but not as well as the A45 AMG as they've softened the suspension a touch on the CLA. Anyway, the operative word for the CLA IMO is SHIT. It's an odd looking thing with a most unattractive droopy arse. Rear passengers also are a bit short for headroom. So, when you hit a rut, there is every chance of a decapitation.
I've driven the A45 AMG and I found the ride quite uncomfortable on our poxy tarmac. It would exhaust me if I had to drive such a car on my daily commute. I also have no intention to fuse my liver to my kidneys. However, I'm going to have another go in one in a couple of weeks as there are certain aspects of the car's performance that I find most addictive. But I will make sure that my Private Medical Insurance will cover me for any damage to my organs.

I saw a Mercdes CLA driving to work today. At first I thought it was a Volvo; then I realized it was the CLA. One of the ugliest cars on the road. Barf... I would choose a handful of domestic cars over how cheap and ugly it looked...

the CLA is fffuuuggglllyyy. i dont understand what was going through peoples minds when they got together and said "THIS! THIS IS PERFECT!"
the interior is nothing special either. actually that bothers me is how the navigation screen looks like an afterthought. OH CRAP WE FORGOT TO ADD THE SCREEN! *glues it on*...DONE!

You guys should look at the newly unveiled GLA. That will take the spot of the ugliest looking car from MB, away from CLA.

The CLA is fine for what it is and will do exceptionally well for the market it targets. $29,900 (even though that's probably plus destination) is a sweet spot in the market and will generate lots of interest. My wife wants one, that or a C-class will be her next car. The CLA can be had well put together for $35k. A BMW 1 cannot. Honestly I don't see the CLA really competing against anything BMW makes. It's a FWD small car that is larger than a 1 and in the size range of a 3, but it isn't rear wheel drive. The fact it isn't rear wheel drive though just might steal some 320i sales in northern states. |

The dealer is screwing you over there. That is not a good price comparison for 1series vs C250. They should be quite similar.

OK, with this overwhelming consensus on how ugly it is, I had to Google it to find out what this thing actually looked like!
Yikes... not a good looking car, to be sure. I think I do recognize it from a recent commercial, and I recall thinking the same at the time.
