Peeling B pillars on F30. Inspect your cars.

Here is an issue two of us had with our paint chipping and peeling on the exterior B pillars. This is the high gloss portion of the vehicle right in the middle, between the windows.

Quote:
Hey folks. I have found a blemish in my F30 that is bothering me. I tried getting a picture, but it doesn't show up well with the glare from the sun.

Do you know that glossy black trim that borders the windows on the (is it B pillars)? Well, mine is starting to chip and create a tunnel if you will. I don't think this was caused by someone or something and is just poor design.

It sucks, because I am leasing and they will probably ding me for wear and tear. Does anyone have suggestions or has anyone experienced this? Looking forward to input. I will also try to get some better pictures later.

This happened to me. Dealer replaced them. Took forever though because they had to take the whole door apart.

I've had one replaced under warranty. My SA said she'd seen it before, so its not uncommon it seems.

That's good to hear, but it sounds like a long repair and weeks or days without car

I didn't mean to make it sound that long. I meant a couple hours. Not days or weeks

Wonder if this is only happening with the glossy "B" pillars? The "line-less" models have the matt pillars so would be interesting to see if they also have this defect.

Thanks OP for the tip.

I'm going to take a look at it in a minute. Does anybody have some pics of the matter please?

Cheers

My drivers side door pillar has a discoloration on part of it. It won't clean off or polish out. It seems like something touched it and won't clean up. Personally I'm not too fond of the glossy look there since it doesn't seem to be very durable. Next time I'm at the dealer ill point it out to them and see what they say.

335i Matte...I went base model because I thought the gloss would be a PITA to maintain, and thus far, on matte, no issues.

That's disappointing for others.

Just read a post in the other F30 forum who has the peeling problem with his matt-finish pillar as well, so probably not limited to the glossy pillars.

Happened to mine too. Looked like water spots that wouldn't rub off. No amount of manual buffing on my part would remove them. Took it in to the dealer and they buffed them out with a machine and now they're gone.

I think thats a different problem. These are chips, they definitely don't buff out. The edges of the pillar covers actually start to crumble away.

Not mine, but from a different forum. Mine looked exactly the same though. The problem is the edge of of the front pillar.

Tilt your head to the left.
