Dropped mine off for some service this morning and the SA said they would de-glaze the rotors. He said what he does twice a year is goes in reverse and hits the brakes to de-glaze the rotors.
Sounds like one of those deals like your blinker fluid is low. |

I go in reverse everyday and hit the brakes. This does not work. Unless he talking about doing it for a long period of time. Idk what going in reverse would really do differently.

I think that SA is caught in old school drum brake land thinking. Back when cars had drums, backing up in reverse, and cranking on the brakes would force the brake shoes in the drums to ratchet out to take out slack. Disc brakes eliminates that issue.
There is no way you could de-glaze a brake pad with a couple hard braking procedures in reverse. Now, if you do a couple 60-0 hard braking stints, then sure. The real issue is dust is building up and the pads aren't floating properly. Hard braking will help buy knocking some of that loose. |

My wife has had an issue like this with her S3 for a long time.
Car has less than 2k on it and when coming to a complete stop the car violently shakes.

SA said BMW wanted to reclean the brakes again. He said that's a waste of time since we have done that, SA wants to replace pads and rotors once again. ...I'm just being as nice as possible, since it's not his fault. he said stay tuned n have me the 335i GT to keep for the weekend. active spoiler, nice!

That's whats weird they replaced our F&R rotors and brake pads. We don't even have the car right now currently still in dealership for this issue that they say "Oh we still can't diagnose the issue. Take the car home and we will contact you"... We love the car but not right now.....

update.
the dealer said because the brake pads and rotors are new all they can do is clean and Lube them. they will not be replacing them again If i want them replaced I have to pay out of my pocket. I asked him to check the battery since it was 4 years old and they went ahead and replaced that under warranty... so I guess BMW is not willing to repair squeaking brakes. I guess the clean and Lube worked for now since they're not squealing anymore

So my brakes of started squealing. Extremely annoying. I think it's gonna drive me crazy. I rarely use the brakes & car only has 5000 miles. I'm sure this is normal. Don't notice it with the stereo turned up.

The pads and calipers weren't properly lubed. What lube there was wore off, the noise came back. Shops just don't take the time to do it right, because time is money, and they get paid a flat rate for the job.

Dealing with break squeal on a CPO with 32K, started at 27K when I first got it. Taking the car in for an oil change, so we'll see if I can replicate it and get them to do something about it.
I do notice it is most likely to start happening when I engage in a few aggressive decels and then follow it up with low speed, mild slow downs. Last edited by tegraphile; 06-06-2017 at 01:19 PM.. |
