F30 Rough Idle?
Just got my 335i, and I have noticed that stop lights when the car is not moving, the idle is a bit rough. I can actually feel the roughness/vibrations in my seat. I don't remember this when I test drove a F30 328i. Is this normal?

Yep, I did. It's not the ASS.

I have felt this also. The shifter is also rough on idle, and sometimes I feel the car over-rev above idle for like half a second or so, increasing its roughness. I'm sure manuals should be this rough, but I don't remember a co-worker's Nissan Maxima 6MT as rough as mine. Kinda weird...

i got this too...but my e92 328i does the same thing...not rough idle, but its more like you can sometimes feel a slight vibration/shudder in the whole car...not anything serious and you have to pay attention to it to notice it

How many miles are you at? I have noticed a substantial increase in "butteriness" since I eclipsed 1200 miles. The ASS is smoother on and off and the idle is much less noticeable.
It may simply be the break-in period. |

You may be noticing the gear clash common in many manual transmissions. If it is worse when the transmission is in neutral and the clutch pedal is out this is the source of the vibration. Completely normal.

I concur, my 335, felt rough at idle and the start stop was very rough, felt the whole car shake on restart. I am now at 2700 miles and the engine is super smooth at idle and I barely notice the restart.

Hmm... I'm at 4000 miles and idle is still a bit rough.

My 335i has been butter smooth from day one.
Even when stopped in "D"/sport AT, there is NO vibration anywhere, steering, seat, or chassis. It's so smooth you can't tell if the engine is running or not. j I have ASS turned OFF by default. When I have used ASS, shut down and restart were also quite smooth, much smoother than all the 328i's I test drove. The N20 is also a smooth engine, but there is a bit of vibe that comes through, but only at idle. Those of you with N55's that have a "rough" idle, does it smooth out once the engine is warm? With MT at idle, does the roughness go away if you put the lever in neutral? This engine should be extremely smooth at idle, if not I'dd take it to the dealer. BTW, when you do feel the roughness, what idle speed do you have? Does it fluctuate a bit up or down or both? It shouldn't. "Hanging" rpm can happen if there is an intake leak somewhere, and that can also contribute to a rough idle, and fluctuating idle. Have a dealer tech look at it, and fix it. |

so did anyone get this fixed?
mine also vibrates when idle and I really don't think this is normal. My friend has a 320D and there's no noticeable vibration when idles! |

My 335 MSport has been smooth from day one (now at 1100 miles). My ASS remembers the last setting so I keep it off 95% of time, but it is smooth when I use it.

I've got a 328i and I had the same thing...My MT shifter would visibly vibrate while idling. I mentioned it to the service dept. and they said it was normal, and would decrease after you put more miles on the car. Sure enough, I now have about 9,000 miles on it and the shifter vibrates MUCH less than it used to.
