Our new 328i F30 has been in shop 5 days for steering wheel vibration

We had it for 10...the shop has had it for 5..

vibration in steering wheel that comes on @ 45mph.. they tested and re-balanced the tires and today they're putting on new ones.. this is taking WAY too long and i am beyond pissed off.

I didn't buy a 36mpg 328i to drive around an X5 that costs a friggin fortune to drive.

APRIL 17, 2012..UPDATE

still in the shop.. that means that they've now had the car longer than we have.. ! (we had it 10 days, they've had it 12)

Talked to the service advisor and he said it's time to call new car sales and talk about getting into another car, because he' hasn't heard anything from BMWNA/Germany and there's little chance theyre going to be able to remedy the situation.

Maybe they'll swap us out for an X5 diesel!?! We'll probably move over into a 528i...that gets great mpg, too, right? same n20 motor?

Ask them to test drive it before picking it up. Its very likely that one of the wheels isnt true, thats pretty common with forged AL wheels.

they've been putzing with it for days, haven't figured it out. this morning i got a phone call saying that started a "puma case".. contacting BMWNA to see how to proceed with it.. apparently they're putting new tires on, etc. UGH

you got an X5 loaner? nice! I dont think the difference in gas would equal much more than $15-20 per tank. Worth it if you ask me. Maybe you should ask for a Mini instead

yeah, but that's not the point..are they gonna give me the extra $20? nope. we sold our Mercedes-Benz ML500 because we didn't want an SUV..then we get stuck with an X5..

(and it's an X5 diesel, too..fully loaded ..the least they could do considering i had my car 10 days before it went into the shop)..

I would think they would provide a car if you ask for it as long as there is one available. Did you notice the car vibrating at 45mph the day you picked it up?

yep..thought maybe it was juist fresh tires that needed to be worn down a little bit.. 500 miles later it was still happening.

Sorry to hear about this. Hope they get everything straightened out for you. In the meantime, enjoy your X5 loaner.

Had the same problem, between 40-60, figured they would never figure it out so i said fuck it but its documented, let me know if they find a fix for you so i can tell me delaer to do the same.

Personally, it wasnt enough vibration to make me mad.

wait, i see your in ft. lauderdale...do you take it to holman on andrews?

its weird, my car goes str8, no pull, no vibrations from the tires(had them rebalanced) but there is a slight virbration in the wheel above 40 but below 60. not sure what it is, but i dont even notice it anymore. I gave the dealer an afternoon to try and fix it and they just rebalenced the tires, i dont feel like leaving it there for a long time so that can experiment and put miles on my car. hope they fix yours tho

I have the exact same issue. Wheel was shaking pretty good around 50, now it's just minor shaking after they balanced the tires. They ordered a new tire to replace one they think is out of round. Time will tell.

Had the same problem here...same vibration....same speeds. The first time in the shop got me the standard "unable to duplicate problem.". I took the service manager for a drive and took my hands off the wheel and he could see it shaking. They took it back in and an hour or so later, he told me that they had found one wheel slightly out of balance and fixed it. The vibration wasn't gone completely but it was a major improvement. Makes you wonder though.....

FWIW, I had this issue in my wifes car. She didnt even notice it, but it was present. Not bad enough to worry, but annoying.

Bought new wheels and tires (aftermarket 19s) and its gone. Literally gone. Hope this helps!

Did you stagger the 19's? Like the stock 19" set up. Style 401: 19x8 ET 36 and 19x8.5 ET 47.

Or go 19x8 all the way around. Or 19x8.5 all the way around?

I'm actually wondering if the front bolts can can handle an 8.5" width rim.
