Roof paint cost - $900-1000 reasonable????!

Just got a quote for the roof to be painted black, he said stuff I didn't understand difficult this and that etc etc, but at the end of the day he quoted $900-1000. Which sounds insane..

How much is the norm for such things? I really don't want to vinyl the thing..

It depends. If you really want a quality job, where he'll be sure to get a nice even coat on all surfaces, without "globs" of it here and there, or overcoating or undercoating, and then afterwards he'll seal it and polish and wax it and all, then 900-1000 isn't unreasonable at all.

Remember, BMW charges $500 per panel just to repair dings/etc if i remember correctly....

If i was you. I get the roof wrap instead. That way you always have the original color incase you decide to sell the car in the future.

thought bout that, but i dont intend on selling the car for another 5-6 years.. and even so, i dont think a black roof will impact on the sale..

if i do something, i want to do it right

I'm in the same boat as you. Originally I wanted to paint but someone told me it would affect the resale. I personally don't think it will and I too plan on keeping the car for 5+ years. For comparison, the shop I called in Houston quoted me $450 for standard w/ 2 coats of clear or $650 w/ 4 coats of clear.

I'm kind of on the fence b/t wrap and paint right now so I'm holding off for a couple weeks and then I'll do something.

I agree i'd get a wrap, i think resale 'may' be affected but also nobody, doesnt matter how good they are will do a perfect job of sanding and then repainting and in a few years you may start to see rust...
Personally i'd get a wrap.

i live in Australia, wrapping costs $4-500. just not worth it, especially since most places offer no warranty etc..
