AC stopped working - compressor clutch?

A few months ago my AC stopped working in the middle of a drive. I've been busy since, and seeing that it's winter time I haven't bothered to check it out until now. Here's what I found.

This fault code indicates that I'm not getting a signal to the AC clutch to turn the compressor on and off.

I went through the routine of triggering the component to check if anything changed, it appeared that the routine would run but I didn't notice any change in the idle speed or readings even though it said that the routine ran successfully.

So what do you all think? Is this truly a wiring issue? is there something else I need to check?

With a multi meter, test the clutch coil & signal wiring. Resistance of the clutch coil, if zero ohms, it failed open. Normal resistance is 2 to 5 ohms. You can test it by momentarily applying 12 volts to the clutch terminals. A distinct click says it’s good.

Typically a replaceable part but the usual vendors & realoem, do not list the clutch separately. Some aftermarket out there.

Check the wiring connector for voltage when commanded to engage in the clutch. Your scan tool appears to go beyond the old-school troubleshooting tests, refrigerant pressure in the system, voltage to the climate control unit & goes directly to the compressor test.

Thanks, I'll try some of those diagnostics.

A replacement clutch can be sourced here https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
After spending quite a long time buying used parts including a compressor and hvac control panel from E-Bay trying to fix the same issue as you I replaced the clutch again with the above one and now the A/C is working again. You will need some long nose Snap Ring Pliers. The inner e-ring is a pain in the ass.

I tested and it's open circuit, when I apply 12v, there is no clicking. I think I'll try to replace the clutch.

I replaced the clutch, using the part from your link. It only took about 2 hours and now works. Thank you for your input, it saved me a lot of money and trouble.

I'm glad it worked for you also, hopefully it lasts a few years.

A bit late on this but do you recall if you could turn your clutch by hand prior to replacing? I have the same issue but clutch is stuck and won't spin. Car can be driven and pulley spins, just not the clutch.
