With doing over 2200+ units a year at our dealership, we have probably sold maybe 10 GT's...

The ones we had on the lot are so old and becoming landmarks, they are now part of our loaner fleet...

The last rendering looks like someone smashed the roofline down...not a fan of that at all...

The red one looks ok, so hopefully it will be closer to that...

I guess that's probably why I saw a lightly used 550i GT at my local dealer for something like $22,000 off of the original new price including taxes, etc.

The 5er GT is not "exclusively" for the US market, neither is every BMW model, BMW's are meant to have universal appeal they are not exclusively market orientated.

5er GT in under a year on the North American market has outsold the same amount of 5er Touring models combined within a two year period.
Of the two years of sales with the 5er Touring , BMW has sold more GT's in just under a year.

Total worldwide units sold of 5er Gran Turismo stand at over 20,000, that is in under a year and for a low volume car , that is significant.
The car is popular in Europe and surprisingly there is a demand for the car in China.

BMW count the introduction of the 5er Gran Turismo as successful, because it has opened up the market to customers who never considered a BMW before with the combination of a high end passenger orientated cabin this side of a Rolls-Royce and elavated driving position being huge drawing cards for the 5er Gran Turismo's appeal. Female owners apparently reckon the car has enough flexibility and also find the car has the perfect driving position.

BMW 3er Gran Turismo will fullfill the characteristics known within the 3er but will do so in a much sleeker , dynamic looking package.

This sounds great, but without numbers for NA, your statement doesn't hold much weight...example, 5er Touring sold 1000 units over two years and they sold 2000 5GT this year...that's not exactly saying much considering BMW plans to sell 1.4 Million cars this year, of which 250,000+ 5 series. So 20,000 WW 5GT units represents less than 10% of 5er's and less than 1% of WW BMW units.

Well I like it. But really all of these new additions should be first viewed in real life, to get a good objective opinion about them.

I think the front of the 5GT is a home-run... very nice! What bothers me is the tall profile and the tail. In terms of overall design, I would be more likely to get an X6 than a 5GT if based purely on looks. If the rear looked sleaker or more modern on the 5GT, I would potentially change that opinion.

It sucks because I know that the 5GT is probably the best overall family car available.

The red one looked pretty good. The others sucked.

That said, I have to agree with those that said BMW is starting to jump the shark.

On a drive today, my wife comments (who is an artist) on cars.

2011 BMW 5 GT, the rear of that car is just not in proportion with the rest of the car.

2010 Honda CrossTour, this car is not much better than the BMW but it IS a Honda.

2011 Porsche Americana, out of the three this is the best, but you are not going to buy one are you?

Last comment........... these are new designs maybe they have to grow on me.

TO BE HONEST MOST OF THE HONDA MODELS USUALLY LOOK PRETTY GOOD BUT THAT CROSSTOUR COULD POSSIBLY BE THE UGLIEST CAR EVER!!!! ...LOL

that statistic almost becomes meaningless without actual figures because its easy to double a small number like 100 or 200, compared to other models that sell a few thousand each year.

im sure that statistic doesnt tell the full story here in the states
I sell BMW no BS here. We have sold at least 5 times times and many GT than 5 series wagons this year. Now with AWD we usually have at leat 6 or 7 on order. As for reference we didnt even aell 7 5 series wagons the last TWO years of production. The 5 wagon was the WORST selling BMW BY FAR. I would say we sell more GT's than Z4 now. The 5 GT is a much better car than the 5 series agon other than the steering and styling which is sybjective anyways. The 5 GT is an excellent car and makes more sense than an X5 for the way 99% of X5 owners drive/use their cars. I think its looks great from the front and side but below average from the rear so it is an OK design in my book. I am SHOCKED how many people love the way it looks to be honest. It is a love it hate it design though. BMW never planned to sell a ton of these they just wanted to produce a car that would sell more than the 5 wagon and the have Sucseeded immensly.

Bring the wagons over. No more of these "slightly higher, maybe roomier, certainly uglier as a result" BMWs. The 5GT is horrendous. And no more of this "BMW doesn't sell enough wagons in the USA" stuff. Have they ever considered marketing the touring variants? At all. Seriously, one ad? Sports suspension, going around a track, a winding mountain road and then unloading a ton of stuff from the back. Simple. The 5GT was meant for Europe, and if they like it in China, they can ship the rest there.

If BMW is into appealing to niche markets, then bring on the GTs, as long as they come over with the Touring variants. Then I won't complain, I'll just close my eyes when I see a GT.
