Valve Cover gasket replacement DIY
I need some assistance, I have a 2012 335i F30, I've seen a few things on here for the E90 but nothing for the F30. For the N55 engine is there much difference in the engine design. I need a DIY for mine, damn if I'm paying a dealer 1500 to do this, doesn't seem that it would be that complicated. Any help would be appreciated.

It should be very similar to the below link:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1197637 While the E90 N55 and F30 N55 are different, I would not think there would be anything significant to worry about between the two with a valve cover replacement. I don't think an N54 guide would work as there are several significant differences (re-designed PVC system, different injectors, added Valvetronic, etc). While it appears much more involved than I expected for a valve cover (mostly due to direct injection), nothing about the job looks too difficult for a novice amateur mechanic.

I'm going by what the dealer said, just had the fuel pump done for a recall, they told me oil filter housing gasket and valve cover gasket have leaks, I can see where the OFH has a leak, that problem has been taken care of, not a tough task but that bolt on the bottom is a the hardest part.

Thanks for the link, I'll dig into it, the only thing that seems like a pain is just taking all the fuel lines and fuel rail off, and I know there's a few plastic pieces to be aware of when taking off as to not break them, thinking it'll take around 3-4 hours at most. Will keep you informed.

If you go to a trusted independent shop you can have it done for a lot less. Another alternative would be to go to REALOEM website and see how everything fits together.

Just make sure you order fresh bolts for any that have a blue marking on them. Torque them correctly. I think the correct torque is listed on the new tis link posted above.
Nice opportunity to get in there and wallnut blast while you are at it! |
