Personally I haven't worn a daily watch since the 80s having been surgically attached to various computers and cars with built in clocks.

Watches are now jewellery items for special occasions, high days and holidays IMHO. Mine have been bought to mark several milestones so have a sentimental value as well.

... However I could never see the point of Apple ... Yet I have iPods permanently mounted in several cars, swmbo constantly criticises me for being on her iPad, both daughters have iPhone bought my me, we have Apple TV et etc. ....

.... So I may not want one, but I suspect I will need one at some point in the future

Personally, I can’t see the point of any watch these days and particularly mechanical watches. I think people with mechanical watches should rely on a horse and trap (if a Coupe owner) or a horse and cart (if an estate owner) to enhance their fascination with 19th century technology and living. Those with diesels should have a very flatulent horse to provide the propulsion.

Still might end up with a Apple watch but not yet.

What!? Swiss watches are pieces of engineering beauty. I wouldn't be seen dead with a digital watch on. Digital watches with short sleeve shirts and ties (and usually with a Vic pen in the top pocket) tell you a lot about a person!

& in terms of transparency I would buy one at retail just to see the interface longer than the 15 minutes Apple give

Nice one, however my two watches are with multiple dials etc so I'm thinking to have a plain one with date only? Still browsing Breitling f.ex. Is overloaded IMHO with everything, too complex
