From the summer, BMW xDrive will be available for the first time in conjunction with three petrol engine variants of the new BMW 3 Series Sedan. A fourth model is expected to be available from autumn, the BMW 320d. Furthermore, with the BMW 330d, the first model of the latest generation will be offered with the straight six-cylinder diesel power unit. Another model in preparation is the highly efficient BMW 320i EfficientDynamics Edition.

As from the second half of the year, the new BMW 3 Series Sedan will be optionally equipped with the intelligent four-wheel drive system BMW xDrive. The dynamic sports sedan and BMW xDrive will form an ideal combination in the models BMW 320i, BMW 328i and BMW 335i. Thanks to electronic control and millisecond-fast power distribution between the front and rear wheels, BMW xDrive guarantees supreme traction, unparalleled safety and first-class handling. Furthermore, xDrive ensures optimum performance in all kinds of weather and road conditions. As a result, the potential of even the most powerful BMW 3 Series four-wheel drive sedan, the BMW 335i xDrive delivering 225 kW/306 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm, can be utilised in a particularly efficient way. The BMW 335i xDrive does the sprint from 0 - 100 km/h (0-62mph) in just 5.0 seconds. Power distribution of BMW xDrive is effected so rapidly that the vehicle is stabilised before the driver even notices the need to react. The model 320d xDrive is also in preparation.

M Sport Package and further possibilities for individualising the new BMW 3 Series Sedan.

The new BMW 3 Series Sedan comes as standard as the embodiment of the dynamic, agile four-door sedan. The sporty driving dynamics, class-leading handling and an elegant appearance are good prerequisites for enhancing driving pleasure even further. From July, the M Sport Package featuring the M Aerodynamics Package and a range of BMW Individual options will be on offer. With the M Sport Package there will be a combination of equipment options that emphasise the sporty attributes of the new BMW 3 Series even further. These include, for example, special M doorsills and the M footrest, high gloss chrome exhaust tailpipes, a special instrument cluster with red accentuating trim and remote control with M designation (car key).

Noticeably improved braking is ensured by the optionally available M Sports braking system featuring 18-inch lightweight brake discs on the front axle and 17-inch discs at the rear respectively. Their aluminium multi-piston fixed calipers are finished in dark blue metallic. There is a choice of attractive 18-inch light alloys boasting a star spoke design or the optional 19-inch wheels, which also contribute towards a further enhancement of driving dynamics.

In order to perfect the new BMW 3 Series Sedan with regard to aerodynamics and optics, the M Sport package includes the M Aerodynamics Package. It comprises sportily differentiated rear and front bumpers and side sills. Further individualisation is possible thanks to BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line for the exterior and a BMW Individual anthracite roof lining for the interior.

BMW 320i EfficientDynamics Edition in preparation.

With the new BMW 320i EfficientDynamics Edition, an additional EfficientDynamics Edition petrol model is now being developed based on the successful diesel model BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition. The highly efficient sedan is powered by a 125 kW/170 bhp 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine. A manual 6-speed transmission takes care of power transmission. The BMW 320i EfficientDynamics Edition sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, with fuel consumption at 5.2/100 km and CO2 emissions at just 124 grams per kilometre (all figures provisional). The market launch is planned for the end of 2012.

A high level of efficiency also characterises the new entry-level model BMW 316i. The sedan is currently in preparation and is expected to round off the range at the end of 2012. Its 4-cylinder in-line engine delivers 100 kW/136 bhp. Power transmission is effected by a 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic transmission. The BMW 316i does the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds and its level of CO2 emissions is at 134 to 137 g/km (all figures provisional).

Well, this coincides with what I was told by my dealer 2 mod ago.
Should be able to see pricing guide within hours.. you have to be able to order something in production in less than 2 months.
ED should be able to process any day now!

I think there's a small spec error in the release.

You mean the 18" brakes up front and 17" brakes in the rear?

I was thinking that or the wheel specs were wrong. The car is coming with The M Performance 20s standard or optional chrome 22 "dubs" with spinners.

Will we see the 320d/330d in the US finally? It would make sense especially if the X1 will see a diesel as well. I could see the cost to federalize those engines spread out across 3/4 models. 3 Series, 5 Series, X1, and X3.

So the M-Sport suspension is the exact same as the Sportline suspension? Can anyone confirm this?

This is it!

The 335 xDrive with carbon/alacantra M Performance interior is worth waiting a few months for.

Black on black and debadged.

0-62 in an advertised 5 secs?

What's not to like...?

It weighs nearly two tons, is a little slower and will understeer more than its RWD counterpart. Some will be bothered by its higher stance, a consequence of its different suspension.

Everything is a compromise.

I don't think there is a significant difference in height due to the X Drive suspension. There may be a slight difference but not much that we can see clearly...

Either way, X Drive is something I'm looking forward to...just got sick and tired of changing from winter tires to summer tires and back again every year on my current 335i...

There's not much snow in Toronto so the X Drive with good all season tires, should be enough!

I think the xDrives are faster out of the gate, to 60 or so. If you're looking at something like 0-125 a RWD might be the faster.

The outgoing X and non-X models are an inch different.

As I mentioned, some will be bothered by its higher stance, particularly as there has been impassioned discussion re the much smaller 10mm difference with the sport suspension. An inch will spur them into a frenzy.

Both the X and the station wagon have legitimate niches.

Only if it is slippery or the cars in question are high powered where grip is an issue. Given good traction, the lighter non-X should be faster - assuming the same final drive ratio.

It isn't going to be enough to make any practical difference in any event.

Yeah, I believe that's the case. The M Sport package is purely cosmetic in the F3X.

The X-drive will also power you out of a turn faster than a RWD.
