I took my hands off of the steering wheel completely and accelerated slowly from 40-60 mph. The car tracked perfectly straight with no vibrations.

My guess is that BMW doesn't want to replace all of those steering racks and is looking for a fix of some sorts.

Well, they better step up their game. Changing the steering racks would be a lot cheaper than losing the entire car value and reputation if we started taking the steps for lemon law!!

Also, from the sounds of it, the issue was limited. The Service Manager at my dealership had never heard of the issue and couldn't find it in the BMW database. It wasn't until he googled it that he learned of it. No cars at that dealership have come across with that issue. When you get the first few production runs of a brand new model, sometimes you have to put up with an issue or two. I'm sure BMW will fix the problem but other issues have been more pressing (like the 335 start/stop stalling issue).

Just brought mine back in for the second time to have this issue corrected.
I was given a 2011 328i and I have to say, regardless of the minor issues I've been having with my 2012, it's a HUGE improvement over last year's model in every way. The F30 feels way bigger and faster than last year's. And the interior looks much nicer. |

considering the 2013 now come standared with power front driver seat, auto dimming mirrors and xenons are a standalone option, i will now begin the lemon process on my car.

Yea, my sterring wheel vibrates like a bitch, and i have just been crazy busy with work to let my dealer try and fix it(which i know they cant)
i have same dealer as OP. Would you be satisfied paying 40k+ and having your steering wheels vibrate? Car has already been in once. When you buy 16+ cars from my dealer in the last 6 years(like i have), they will bend over backwards to accommodate. I have lemmoned a few cars with them, normally they just replace it to avoid the lemon process,

So you're saying people with a January/February production have this issue? In that case I'm sorry to tell you but I have checked it a couple of times but have no vibration issues at all in my car (produced in Feb)

Last week I test drove a 650i M-sport with 20" wheels and it had the vibrating steering wheel.

I was told that a software update was performed, and that the tech drove my car afterward and was unable to detect the vibration. On the ride home, the vibration did seem less pronounced. In fact, the steering feels tighter in general, having just returned the 2011 loaner I was given, which had extremely tight steering. Since the 2012s have electronically controlled steering, it wouldn't surprise me that an update to the car's software could result in tightened steering (just like how pressing the Sport button tightens the steering even more). If I could have it my way, I'd like the Sport-button steering to be enabled permanently, but without all the other stuff that pressing the Sport button does. I can't say that the vibration is entirely gone. But, at least for now, it's barely noticeable. I still think ANY vibration in a luxury car like this is unforgivable, especially when both my previous car (a 2008 MINI with 50,000 miles) and the loaner had no vibration whatsoever. But I'm not sure this is something I'd be willing to make a stink about. I'll test it some more tomorrow and see if anything changes. |
