So when I purchased my 2015 335i last week, the sales person was going over the warranty with me. I know that my car comes with the basic warranty and the agent was explaining additional warranty such as tire & rim protection, ding, etc.

After talking to her, I decided to add Tire and Rim protection warranty for about $1250. Is it worth the money? She said I can cancel it within 30 days. Also, I did not feel like other extra warranties were worth the money EXCEPT for tire and rim protection. Let me know what you guys think.

I think that was a good move given the fact of how ridiculos the cost of the run flats is, not to mention the rims. I got the same warranty and it'll cover unlimited claims for 5 years, Im sure something will happent to at least a couple of tires during that time.
If you are not planning on getting aftermarket wheels down the road, then it'll be worth it.

I purchased it for my wife and I and I have yet to use it. However, my friend has needed it five times on the past two years (four times for tires and one time for a rim).

You friend claim four times for tires? Was each time a completely different tire than the previous replacements, eventually resulting in a whole new set of tires? That would be quite a "unpredicted" sequence. Lol

Not four sets of tires! Four single tires. The tires blew out from pot holes. He just exchanged his X6 for the M3, so I am waiting for a text with a picture of a bent rim.

I know. So I'm saying did he happen to pop four single tires, and they just so happen to be a different tire each time? Which means he technically ended up getting a whole new set of tires, each tire from each incident. And then he exchanged his X6 with 4 new tires, all from "accidental damages". Because that would be quite a "coincidence". Lol

And yeah, I wouldn't be surprised, SUV to M3 is quite a change. He will soon realize his determination of clearance levels will be off once he bottoms out the car.

I believe it was the fronts on all four occasions. The potholes where he lives are a way of life. Lol.

This is his 9th or so BMW. All were 3 series coupes, except for the X6.

Spend $100 or so at Americas Tire for the road hazard certs instead.

Don't think they cover the rim, but at that price it's a decent compromise.

When I had it I used it 3 times... But back the it was 800 bucks... 1200... I self insure

Depends a lot on your local roads too. If I lived in an area where it snowed and had the resulting potholes, I'd think about it. Here in AZ it would be a total waste of money though.

Where I am the roads are horrendous. Less than one year and I have already had to replace 2 wheels. One more and the cost evens out.

I usually reject all such extra add-ons, especially when I already paid a shit ton for the car, but I chose to pick this up.

In MI the roads are garbage, so I saw this as a good investment for the car. The roads in VA (from my limited experience) are pretty decent shape so it might not be necessary. You have to judge your local road conditions.

Overall, I think it is not a bad investment.

Depends on the road condition and the tire size you have. If you have 225/45, you would probably not need it. But if it was 225/40 and lower profile I would probably get it.

Thank you all for feedback. I think I will cancel the warranty... This is my first actual vehicle and I guess I was just sold by the dealer. Now that I think about it, I don't think I ever had tire pop, rim bend, and/or nail in my tire. Maybe ONCE in 7 years.

I think with $1250, I will just purchase MPE or something. Stock exhaust sounds too quiet... but at the same time I don't want anything really loud.

I've had mine for less than a year and I've already replaced 2 run flats (granted at less cost than the warranty so far). But those things seem to be ridiculously easy to puncture.

I don't think I ever had nail or any problem on my tires. Except when I was being stupid. I will probably use up all the threads before I even get a problem

I just went through the same thing. I decided not to do it because the roads where I do 75% of my driving are pretty decent, and the cost (I was quoted 1,299) was steep enough that I would rather spend the money on a set of snow wheels (I already have tires), and a set of summer (mine came with all seasons) non RFT (cheaper to repair/replace and less likely to bend a rim) for less. Like others have said it can easily pay for itself if your luck is really bad and you live in an area where the roads are bad.

I hadn't punctured a tire since 2002 when I accidentally hit a curb to fast in college. Since getting my BMW in November, I ran over a nail in January and another in February! Must be the crappy Northern VA roads

Used my warranty today, got the BMW warranty not a dealership one. I have 4,000 miles on my 435i and got a new run flat today. Took them a while the change but only had to pay $50 deductible vs. the $475 it would have cost. Also got the car washed so I have that going for me.

With a 2011, I had $750 for a $0 deductible rim and tire package. Used it like 8 times, all due to pot holes. Would have been 3-4K out of pocket.

Well worth the money. For $1250 make sure it covers cosmetic rim repair as well, it should.

Windshield is crap shoot. Repairing BMW windshield is $1300-2,300. If you don't have good comprehensive, I'd get that too.



Just beware with the "EXTENDED" warranty. They make it seem that it extends your 4 years to 6 years, and to 100,000 miles. They also make it seem that if you cancel before 50,000 miles, or 4 years, you can recoup your money.

The extended warranty is a separate product from day 1, you are purchasing 6 years and 100,000 miles, not merely extending it. So when you want to cancel, you are prorated at the current time you have had on the car.
