Highly Technical Question
I have a highly technical question. I have searched and read all the F30 technical documentation on this site as well as a competitor's site and cannot find my answer. My question is this: Where, EXACTLY, is the TPM antenna for the newer version TPM monitor (2015 model). My understanding is that the antenna is shared with the key fob remote antenna but I simply cannot find its location. I know the older "flat tire monitor" used a different antenna system. However, the newer system (which uses all new wheel sensors) uses a different setup.
Does anyone know the answer? Where is the actual receiving antenna located? Is it within the FEM (front electronics module), REM (rear electronics module), in the C Pillar of the rear window, or somewhere else entirely? |

I doubt there is an antenna, my understanding is that the system uses wheel speed data from the ABS sensors to calculate differences - a tire low on air will have a smaller effective rolling diameter and will rotate faster.
Tirerack has info here: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete...&affiliate=HK8 |

The old system used wheel speed data to determine pressure loss. The new system monitors each tire independently. My dealer said the antenna is integrated with the key fob antenna, but that does not make sense to me.
There are lots of threads about the changeover. I think it actually occurred during late 2014 model production. It uses different components. |

I think what your dealer is referring to is the newest models now show actual tire pressure in the iDrive screen rather then just a low pressure message. The system (hardware) actually is the same and tracked pressure all along, it just was not shown in iDrive. The new software just allows the hardware to now show the pressure.
