F30 HUD black background?

Hey all,

So i have HUD in my 12' f30 335 and its great in the day but at night i see a black background box which is super annoying and ugly..

my friend's 13 f30 328 does not have this black box ....


any ideas why?

I think i get that when the brightness is set to the highest position

^^ This. If you turn down brightness in iDrive settings, should get rid of that box for ya.

The HUD is another screen in your BMW (with some fancy mirrors and coatings to make it appear as though an image is floating in front of you).

This is vastly simplified, but most screens (OLED is an exception) work by shining light through a bunch of little windows [pixels].

While the curtains on your windows may keep out the morning sunrise [low brightness], some light will bleed around the edges of the curtain in the middle of the afternoon [high brightness].

LCD screens suffer from these same limitations.

LCD backlight. Turn the brightness down and it should mostly go away. One of these days BMW will maybe consider using OLED displays for their HUD and digital dashes. Until then, things will keep looking shitty.
