How long did it take for you to get past the break in period?

I'm almost coming along into my first month after taking delivery of my 335i xDrive. Loving the car so far at 900 some odd miles on the odometer, mostly driving on Eco Pro only because I've now become obsessed with seeing how high I can get the fuel economy. Next would be Comfort and I dabbled on Sport mode and Sport plus which was crazy! Not used to that much power especially switching from an 2000 Acura TL. This is my first BMW experience...

Was wondering how long it took everyone to get beyond the break in period or 1,200 miles? Also curious to see what majority of the driving mode this was done in?

Under 4 weeks to get past 1200 miles.

Of course I "Broke it in" about a week after owning it.

Lease + free maintenance means I care very little about the long term reliability of this engine. I'll leave it to BMW engineers to worry about that.

Wow over 2 months and still under 1,000 miles? Do you commuteby train to work or is the F30 not your primary vehicle?

i rotate all my cars so the f30 gets driven once about every 3.5 weeks. rest of the time it just sits there in my garage.

It only took about 3 weeks for me to get to 1200 miles.

Mileage will improve as the engine breaks in more.

On a trip from SoCal to AZ/NM last year with about 8K miles on the car, I was getting about 550 miles per tank; about 37 mpg going 70-75 MPH on the open road.

Impressive...328 or 335? So far I'm averaging 20 mpg mostly on eco mode for mostly work commute. I hope you're right in saying this will improve as the engine breaks in because I was hoping to get better fuel economy. Starting to envy all the 328 drivers boasting their high mpgs...

But once I get past 1,200 I'm gonna start punching it to have a little fun...

I got my car 3 days ago. So far I am at 400 miles. Got 24.6 mpg for the first tank driving in a mix of eco, comfort and sport

Also driving from another state to mine to pick up the car helped kill 250 miles!

Took my new 328 for its first 250 mile drive last weekend, and only averaged 22.3mpg on exclusively comfort mode, most of the driving on highway. Really hoping this improves with time.

328i.

Mileage drops a lot in the city, I get 22 to 25 mpg driving around town. It's a small engine in a fairly heavy car so stop and go kills the efficiency.

I should hold the record... I pick up my car this Friday at PCD, and will drive it back to Dallas. I should hit 1200 miles approximately 48 hours after delivery

328i - picked up Nov '12. 900miles.

Used kick-down and hit the red line after about 300miles. I'm not one who subscribes to 'running in' the engine. I appreciate the car as whole should be nursed for a few hundred miles but after that, time to enjoy when the need arises. Other than that I try to get the most i can out of a tank of fuel.

Re fuel economy - very disappointed. Am only getting 30mgp (UK) combined -advertised is 44.8mgp. I didn't even get over 40mgp on a 100mile journey (when extra urban is quoted as 54.3). Hope this improves - anyone know how many miles before it does?!

Typically use Eco-pro 60% of time, 20% comfort and 20% sport/+.

I picked mine up November 17 and reached 1200 miles 2 weeks ago. MPG has been going up steadily. Started out about 22 mixed hwy and city (with lots of NYC traffic) and now averaging 26.

I didn't worry about driving it differently during the break in period...
