I'm assuming the whole radio has to come out in order to get to the cupholder led wiring?

From Sytner in Leicester. If you order it we can fit it together if you like? It worked out to be about £40.

It looks straight forward to fit, it's just the wiring bit I'm not sure about.

There is no need to remove headunit!
The LED sits in the trim cover beneath the AC trim piece. In the video tutorial there is no LED in the cover as the car doesn't have ambient lighting.
You see the LED with installed adapter in this pic:

Getting access to the cupholderlight is the easiest part of the operation, you just pull the whole cover where the light is, out from its place, it's just clipped on

Dante, are the part numbers in amended Post 2 original BMW part numbers which I need to order from my local main dealer at the same time as I order the illuminated trim piece ?

Cheers.

This cable is a bitch to put together. Everything is straight forward until you have to crimp the cables as there isn't enough space in the contacts for two cables! And then the contacts don't fit the plug housing properly possibly because of the aforementioned problem.

Any suggestions?

True, it's all very tight with the double cables, but works fine. I've made about 10 adapters using these parts.
You have to twist the wires together really tight and they will just fit in the 0,75mm² contacts.

Also, as I pointed out in the DIY, I found it useful to widen the openings of the contact housing with a sharp blade. I also shaved of a tiny bit of the insulation of the two wires so they fit into the housing.

Hi Dante,

I have the luxury model. Do you know with the LCI whether they still have the silver surround? And if it's got an illuminated option?

I'd be interested to get one if so. I'm heading to Germany next week, so I could pick one up from there. I'll get the plugs & stuff as well...

Thanks

Hi,

no, all LCI F30/F31 Lines have the same all gloss black trim piece.
The ambient lighting of the trim only comes with the LCI and option 563 'lighting package'. The 4 Series does not have an illuminated AC trim piece.
