I really don't care what the engine size is. I got 335i for 7 years enjoying it to the very last day. Now I enjoy my 335d slightly in a different way. I wouldn't mind driving 320d if I didn't hear the noise which was so irritating to me that this would have taken all the pleasure off. Life is for living and enjoying. why should I struggle in my own car? If 320d was quiet like 520d I would have gone for it. I don't need 5 series anyway. Like I enjoy my hifi and quality of nice sound rather than computer speakers buzzing on my desk. I just want to make my life more pleasant. That's what I think. even if it costs some money....

This is all bollocks. The 335d is a fast car. Faster than 95% of cars on the road. To say it's not is like saying a that some 6ft 5inch guy is not tall because there is another guy who is 7ft 5! Clearly they are both tall but ones a freak! Yes a GT-R is very very fast, but it's a freak. And as for motorbikes, well they're just like giraffes in this analogy!

When folk are using the phrase reps do they really mean a sales rep, or are just meaning fleet cars and folk who wear suits to work?
I know a few reps and they drive boggo golfs, and various types of 2 litre diesels from BMW and Audi. Almost so 'rep' drives big engines cars! Plenty of folk with suits have to use the roads too... We're not all reps! |

So this is not engine snobbery it's white collar snobbery!

Same here, unless I'm out with one of the reps seeing customers, which thankfully I do try to avoid... I am in marketing after all!

As for others comments re: the 3 series being reps cars - well perhaps but its can't bother me too much (spending 40k+ on a 3er) as its the same for its rivals a4 and c-class so its a moot point. I've also never heard of a 300 bhp 4x4 being referred to as such either. Same for M3 which ok has a much more aggressive and racing setup - but its still a 3. People also refer to the fact that the 3 series outsells the Mondeo, but it doesn't appear in the top 20 - prob due to its size (fiesta and focus are 1st and 2nd) and depreciation (I've had a few and ouch) people want premium and with leasing and pcp they can get it easier than ever. It's not like it used to be for me. i'm in Pharma and so the whole corporate shmoozing thing is a no no these days, even between us and our agencies, and of course our interactions with doctors is always majorly under the spotlight!

Handy check sheet to see where your car fits...
Rep Car: - Bottom of the range model of saloon - Lowest BiK engine/drive train combo (usually small diesel) - Cheapest paint job (White) - No Options White Collar Fleet Car: - Probably mid-range model saloon - Cheap to run/insure with good resale so probably mid range diesel - Cheap paint job with good resale (White/Black/Silver) - Minimal options (maybe lowest sat nav) Personal car used by person who wears a suit: - Top end model of Saloon/Estate/Coupe - Top engine (Diesel for high milers, petrol otherwise) - Maybe a solid colour but unlikely to be white - Maxed out options. Happy motoring all |

Yes I realise that. My point was, because you own a fast bike, anything slower than the performance of your bike seems slow to you. Its what you are used to.
But that does not mean to say cars that do 0-100 in 10 or 11 secs are slow. How many that you see every day can do that? And what kind of money do you need to spend out on a car to achieve faster than 0-100 in 10 secs? A LOT of cash needed.
