BMW F30 Malaysia Fraternity "The Rusted Jackets"

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Introducing "The Rusted Jackets", a F30 group formed in Malaysia. The Rusted Jackets are named fondly after the rust stricken seats that most if not all F30's are bestowed with. It is made up of working professionals, oil barons, pimps, businessmen and witch doctors. The group initially started as a small group of passionate F30 owners who wanted to get to know other owners and share their experiences (the joyful and equally frustrating ones). What initially started as a small group to meet for coffee eventually lead to weekend drives, severe poisoning sessions, group buys and things of that nature.

The following are pictures of our latest drive that I wish to share;

It all starts when you wake up bright and early on a Saturday morning and make your way up to the rendezvous point, usually a petrol station;

An obligatory safety briefing takes place to ensure safety is top priority. Most drives are a non-overtaking drive and there is a Marshall who will enforce the rule. A recce of the routes are done prior to the day of the drive to ensure everything is A-okay and the lead car must be aware of the routes and all potential issues. Most of it is discussed in the safety briefing;

A quick photo with a few of the boys prior to jetting off;

There were two routes to our breakfast point. One was a boring highway and the other was a nice twisty mountainous trail, "Touge" as the Japanese call it. Naturally we opted for the twisties. Unfortunately, we don't have any pictures of the awesome route, probably because it is illegal to snap photos whilst driving.

However, once we reached on top of the hill, we took the opportunity to snap a quick shot :P

After that we continued our run till we reached our breakfast point. I'll just let the pictures do the talking;

Melbourne Reds, comparing various wheels sizes!

One of only 2 Full M-Performance cars currently available in Malaysia. What BMW releases will only be ported over here officially after years!

Finally, a picture with all of us;

Hope you enjoyed the pictures guys. Sharing a piece of the BMW brotherhood from Malaysia

BMW's seat supplier used some sort of untreated metal in the f30 seats, so this lead to rusting. Pretty much everyone has a little rust or a ton of it. Some people even had theirs replaced.

I don't have the link but one owner took it in so many times and being denied new seats he wrote all over the car "RUSTY BMW" and left the car in front of the dealership.

I have it. To me mines not so bad...not too serious, I've seen worse from other manufacturers.

I don't have it. I have one of the very last e92's.

Was this only in Asia or here too? Yet another reason I'll only get BMWs built in Germany.

Don't think E92's are affected, this is strictly related to F30's.

I'm Munich build. You're in a E chassis only F chassis were affected. It doesn't matter where the car was built BMW had really no control of what the supplier was doing.

Speaking from experience because I work for a major auto manufacturer, you don't know of defects until after the fact. Sadly in most cases it's after the customer takes possession of the vehicle. At that point the manufacturer opens up a campaign against the defect determines if indeed it's the supplier at fault. Then the supplier is charged to pay and fix for manpower hours and supplies to fix the issue. All while in this case BMW is taking the heat and trying to stop the bleeding from 100's to 1000's of customers affected. It's very common. No one is going to say well x supplier screwed up, so Supplier x please fix this. Because well no one knows the process, or 90% of the time no one knows the supplier. People just know the car is a bmw and the seats are from bmw. Or that the seats likely come pre assembled.

I guarantee you they do come pre assembled from their supplier. Ours do, we use Leer.

It's a one hand washes the other sort of thing.

You don't get M Sport versions for the F30 in Malaysia and Singapore. They look so much better with the M Sport bodykit.

Way ... It's another highland resort nearby to Genting, it's called Bukit Tinggi. The twisty roads leading up to the resort is smooth and twisty. A fun route to go for spirited drives.

Wow it seems all number plates has Euro strip. A hot trend in Malaysia now. Better than previously dull and boring plates.
