The owner of autohome in china ( where these pictures are coming from ) said after seeing the 4gc and a few others not publicized models, this 4 gc is the most beautiful car amoung all cars BMW is selling now. he even said you will feel shame if yourself dont look good enough when sitting in there. this car is much lower, and wider than a regular 3 series so it sounds like a more sporty one. i may want to get one if it is that good or otherwise just a regular 435. Chinese may not be able to have too many cars at the same time, hence one sporty yet practical car could be best next to a SUV for a family. guess it also applicable to other regions...

BMW already has a 5-door 3-series. It's the F31. Other than to compete with the Audi A5, the 4GC is pointless, in my opinion. An RS4 Avant beating M3 Touring makes much more sense.

It's a 4-door version of a coupe model, which now will be available in both 2-door and 4-door versions. The 4-series is not a 2-door version of the 3 series. The 4 series are coupe models, the 3 series are sedan models. |

I think the question you should be asking is why is BMW making this car at all. For the same reasons they make both a 5 series sedan and a 6 series Gran Coupe. Do you view those 2 cars to be similar? I am sure it will be stunning on the road. In my mind, the 4GC will be competing with the 6GC for the best design award in the F car lineup. While I like the f30 design (a lot), I believe the 4GC will have many advantages over the f30. In return for giving up a 5th passenger and some headroom in the rear seats, you get: -Extended wheelbase -Sporty and sleek coupe exterior design lines -4 seater (rear bench will likely look like the 6 GC) -Lower roof line (coupe exterior design) -Wider wheelbase -Overall, lower than the f30 = lower center of gravity = improved handling and not as much body roll, as evidenced in the above nurburgring videos -Hatch back opening for improved versatility and cargo transport -Exclusivity . |

I am a typical 4/6GC target customer.
Prefer coupe design, hate long coupe doors - OK, we made the doors shorter Prefer coupe design, hate the seatbelt butler - Fired him just for you, sir Prefer coupe design, hate difficult accessibility to rear seats and lack of usability - OK, we added two doors for easier ingress/egress Prefer the coupe design with a lower sloping roof line, lower stance and wider wheel base - You got it Prefer the handling and driving dynamics of a coupe, but need 4 doors for the family - Done! Prefer the larger trunk space in the sedan - Ok, we'll give you that too. In fact, here is a bigass hatch opening |

The 4GC with M-Sport and 19's should be a serious looker. I can see this car as a stepping stone for those exiting the 3 series brand but not fully into the land yacht appeal of the 5-series. It will be more practical than a 4-coupe but still have the sexy appeal of the coupe. The perfect melting pot of practicality and style.

What is this mysterious B58?.. Any details?.. My 435i is sitting at a port in Bremerhaven... I may be a little pissed if the new engine comes in and wipes the floor with the N55.

Honestly, I would prefer the n55 without even knowing what the b58 even looks like. The n55 is perfect. I fear the unknown, and all the potential failures it may bring. BMW has not been the most reliable when it comes to developing, integrating and assimilating new products into it's lines. I'm already a bit leery buying a first year model f36 or f80. The new powertrains will be a concern for sure. |

The N55 has been 100% reliable to me. While it doesnt raise my heart-rate like the N54, I enjoy every minute I get to open it up a bit.
