just got a '14 after 18 months of 13'
so I picked up my 2014 335 i everything same as my 13' due to buy back and let me tell you guys that it feels like a different car, everything in the car feels tighter and built with better quality. Could it be possible that 18 months can make that much of a difference between build quality. My 13' i got in august of 2012 but I had an explore before it and had noting to compare it to. Now going from 13 to 14 feels like a different car. 1st thing i noticed the steering feel has more of a matte finish than the 13s rubbery feel. the buttons on 14 are more inline with the plastic of the steering wheel unlike the 13 whose button were higher than the plastic around it so you could easily feel that your thumb was on a button. Next the doors and glass feeel muchhhhhh muchhhh better than my 13, quality is honestly like i felt when i had the 5 series loaner, its very tight and the glass doesn't slam/rattle like it did on the 13. also navi is much better but preffer the traffic view of the 13 . overall the car is much better imo i dunno if anyone else noticed when going from an early build car to a later production, that the built quality is much better, also no squeaks and rattles like in the 13. i wonder is the m cars also have differences in build quality between early ones and later/mid cycle produced cars

It's called the honeymoon effect. Let it settle in, gather some dust, break in some rattles and earn some badges and it will feel pretty much the same as your old one. Except now you have a bigger iDrive controller. Oooooo ...
Congrats! |

Its called the "I just got a new car effect". Part real, part fabricated by our minds.
I had same feeling when I got my MY14 after turning in my MY13 MSport. That said, for sure some things really are improved....

You just disqualified yourself from any future comparos! Obviously the '14 will make you more giddy (M performance)! Congrats! WTH? 3 guys on the same thread doing buy backs? What happened to your '13 guys? And how do I initiate a buy back on my '13? |

So what's up with this "BMW buyback"? Were the cars lemon or what?

I'm pretty sure BMW updated the code for the EPS steering from MY13 to MY14 cars. I've heard the difference is a marked improvement so that very well could be what you're noticing. For those of you with MY13 cars you can go to your dealer and have them flash the new EPS steering code into your car's ECU, and there are even some third party places that can flash your ECU as well.

Mine was built 1 month prior 2014 was released, euro delivery (yep it sucks! My dealer never got me a firm answer on 14 releases) anyways, my car quality and steering wheel feeling does not compare to the 2012 / 2013 loaners that I had in the past, it is a different car in terms of quality, even smell different.
Im 100% happy with my car BTW, about the new nav, it looks too flashy to my teste, the only thing a miss about it is the weather that the new nav has.

For 2014 the same package does not include the side view cameras and blind spot warning. Those two moved up to the driver assist plus package. So my packages on the 2014 are Cold Premium HK Driver assist 19s Increased speed limiter Dynamic handling package Technology Sport AT PPK MPE Man I am sure going to miss the blind spot warning. If you wanted to make a quick lane change, without taking your eyes off the road you just hit the turn signal, if no vibration from the steering wheel then you knew you are good to go. If you get vibration then stay put. It saved me a couple of times. The side view were pretty cool too. Hate that I lost those two things and to make myself feel better I bought the MPE. Edit Just went to the website, you are right top view cameras are not in the driver assist package as well for 2014.

Your '13 used to have a matte finish to the steering wheel as well. An your '14 will look the same as your '13, after a year or so. The matte finish goes away from the oil of your hands and the friction.

I went from a '13 to a '14 after 8mos & 18k miles and feel pretty much the same as the OP. I've put 17k miles in the '14 in 7 months and still feel its tighter & more planted than the '13. The only thing is the "matte" feeling of the steering wheel has worn to more of a typical smooth-ish leather feel...

14 definitely has a few improvements over the 12 and 13. Steering is a huge improvement.

One thing I can confirm. When I push on my MY13 HVAC, it creaks like mad. I can make a symphony out of it.
MY14 is a totally different ball game. But then I might be comparing a brand new car vs a car I drove for almost a year with lowering springs, but the fit and finish is certainly three notches higher. I can't wait to get rid of the MY13 as soon as I can get out of it. Felt like it was still a beta year to BMW. dL |

Right, but the steering improvements are due to the software update. Noting specific to the '14 MY or any updated steering hardware. That same software update is being applied to '12 and '13 cars with similar improvements in steering. |

i think we may be exaggerating things a bit here. I would be surprised if the differences are that significant. Anyway I will get to park both side by side and see if there is anything thats remarkable about the differences between the two. I am mainly interested in the difference between the stock exhaust with PPK and the MPE with PPK. I want to rev up to 4000 rpm and see what I can pick up and record the two.
I also plan on playing music on both to see how HK and standard compare. I have always said standard was crap.
