Driving the 5-series with 3 base settings, I'd imagine gives a wider spread. I know if I only had the comfort and sport modes, I'd be saying they are too different. Typically I use normal mode, as the sport mode is too firm and ride quality deteriorates on our poor surfaces. Sport and comfort are great on better road quality, then I can pick the firmer ride, or magic carpet.

BTW, for the 5-series I rate Adaptive Drive as the best option available.

there is four settings in the adaptive suspension, eco pro through to sport+,im sure the eco pro just softens the engine/gearbox maps and not the suspension though

I thought all cars had the basic 3 modes (ECO-PRO, Comfort and Sport) and only the Sport and M Sport trims have the Sport+ mode.

I've not seen anyway to chose the suspension settings in ECO-PRO but it feels a bit stiffer than Comfort. I prob use Comfort and ECO-PRO the most.

My 5-series has 4 switchable modes, with 3 suspension settings. I understand the 3-series adaptive system has just the 2 suspension settings, comfort and sport, although continuously adaptive. As I read it, comfort mode will apply to comfort and eco-pro, sport mode to sport and sport+.

Same as my car will be in sport suspension mode when toggling to sport+, where in addition, DTC will be activated.

I think most of us ordered the 19" wheels just for the looks, nothing to do with improving the handling.

For me:
Adaptive M Sport Suspension a must and my No.1. Really improves the driving experience.
Front and Rear Parking sensors my joint No.1
Visibility Pack great for night driving
Heated seats a must with leather
Folding door mirrors needed for Central London. Love the dipping feature
HK if you love your music. Excellent value
Electric lumbar support if you've got a weak back
Pro Nav an absolute must for showing off. Hardly use it
Boot net secures food shopping

Not for me:
DAB. Sounds rubbish. Wish I'd not paid for it
19" Wheels. Impractical. Ruin the ride. Expensive on tyres. Very difficult to fix. Impossible to get Wheel Insurance. A definite No No

Love:
The 330d's engine. Simply wonderful
The 8 speed Auto + paddles
EBII the best hue
Coral Red leather seats. Simply stunning

Wish I'd ordered:
Heated Steering Wheel .... maybe
All round cameras. Damn. Love 'em. Sooo useful.

the 19s don't improve the handling it just makes it harsher, any improvement 19s could make to handling could never be exploited on uk roads,
19s are also a bugger to cleanive had to buy a big toothbrush to clean between the spokes

Yep the 19's look stunning .......and go better with the M Brakes

I drove two cars back to back, F31 with the M400 18" and then F30 19" M403. Didn't notice any difference in harshness when I went out in the 19's equipped car. What I did notice was the F31 was more prone to wheelspin.....this could be due to the different tyres fitted to the 18's or perhaps the F31 is just generally more prone to wheelspin (doubtful)????

Must say I'm a bit puzzled with this comment. Impractical, why? Having drove in 18s previously to the 19s I don't notice any difference, the suspension tends to make the difference IMO. Expensive on tyres, marginally, lets be honest if we're buying brand new BMW's I think the marginal increase is pretty insignificant really!

Personably I love the look of them and I feel they make the car!!!

I ordered split rear seats on my E90 cos the missus says "just in case" and also my old 330d had them. Never used the things in nearly 18 months.
Only used them twice in the old car.

My reasons which you might disagree with:

Impractical: Easier to kerb. I am crap at parking. Too many spokes to clean.

Difficult to fix: Because they are diamond cut. Without a wheel for a day as they need to be machined on a special lathe. Hence without a car. 18" are painted and can be fixed quickly and more easily with a smart fix (outside the house). Cheaper to fix due to Wheel Insurance. Diamond cut can only be fixed once.

Wheel Insurance: Not available as they are diamond cut.

Ride: No question that 18" give a better ride and produce less road roar. I've compared them very carefully.

Looks: 19" look nicer but not overly so. 18" also look great with a more delicate look.

Tyre costs and availability: 18" tyres are more easily available. I am too mean to pay that 'little bit extra' for 19" tyres.

Therefore, 5 out of 6 in favour of 18".

ETTO.

also there is less sidewall so the alloy cops it when you hit a pothole,my friend has a tyre business and does a roaring trade in replacing cracked alloys and stuffed tyres,it is even worse on cars with 20s,21s,uk roads really are awfull

On my drive back after collecting the car from Berry BMW today, the A4 going East into town from Brentford was full of deep potholes. The road had literally fallen to bits. It was difficult to find an unbroken surface and cars were weaving in and out of lanes to avoid these deep cracks. Looked like earthquake damage! I hit a few as they were unavoidable. Really shook the car. Thankfully, wheels and tyres still intact. The roads, if you can call them this, are getting really very dangerous. The government really needs to spend serious money on our infrastructure. It's falling to bits, not bit by bit but with unusual alacrity.

Next car: a tank! I hear they are going cheap with all the military cutbacks

The 19" are a pain to clean, harder to repair, and I'm sure do give a harsher ride but I'd order them every time! They look soo good

Really liked the 19" alloys but the missus was totally against them so it was none starter. However I'm really happy with the 18", I think they go well with Mineral Gray.

On the E91 the 18" 193M were way nicer than the 17" 194M. IHMO both the 400M and 403M both look pretty smart

They do look good, but most of the time you're IN the car so you can't see 'em

I have obtained a quote for an 330dxdrive and have included most of these extras.

I have included the heated steering wheel and kept to the 18 wheels for the reason you outline with which I agree. I'm not going for TV at 800 quid or the surround view at 500 quid. I thought the rear view was good enough.

Before I confirm my order, Do you really think the extra cameras with the view are really worth it?

By now, reading this thread you will have noticed that options are very personal. 'A must have' to one person is the other guys 'waste of money'. Most important thing is what you value.

If you struggle with spatial awareness, then perhaps the surround camera system will be a plus. I generally park so fast I don't have time to consult all the camera views, so would be low on my list.

Good luck with the order
