Trying to verify SA factory speed limiters

So I verified my SA build M-Sport with performance tires still got the 135mph speed limiter or whatever it is instead of 155mph.

In doing some research it seems that no BMW comes out of there with the raised limiter unless it's an ///M car.

Can somebody confirm that is the case? Because my illustrious CA swore that I would automatically have the higher limiter due to the performance tire setup on the M-Sport. And of course I didn't.

If that's true that's not only BS, but BMW owes an obligation to let buyers know this. I know there was somebody really pissed off that he didn't get the raised limiter and was going to take the issue all the way to the top. But don't know how that turned out.

Sport and MSport should be 155mph with summer tires, 130 with all seasons. Not exclusive to M vehicles.

I think unless you have option 804 iirc then you don't have the raised limiter. It should be standard with the perf tires but unless that option is specifically selected you end up with the lower speed limiter

There is a CA from a local dealer that had an M-Performance from SA and he told me it had the lower limiter and that is because SA produces for Indonesia, China, Australia etc. They all get the lower limiter--except for ///M cars. Sounded a bit weird, but why the heck would an M-Sport all decked out in M-Performance mods have the crappy limiter.

Actually Sedan Clan is friends with him, maybe he can opine or clarify.

I don't think I'd ever need to drive that fast in the US, but I wanted what I paid for regardless.

Your man has his hand on his willy!

Our cars have a limited top speed of 250 Kms/hr which equates to 155 miles/hr.

How did you determine your car doesn't have it?

If I go in and build an SA 335xi and choose option 2PE it adds 840 to the option list which is increased top speed limiter... if I pull up pipeline SA cars built with 2PE, they all show option 840 as included. Does your sales or service inquiry show option 840?

It didn't and my CA didn't tell me I needed to add 840--she said it's automatic with the summer tire setup. Frogman hooked up my car to his laptop and verified the top speed limit. Also the Russian VIN decoder shows no 840 whereas my Munich build M-Sport had the 840.

F10 boys have been trying to unlock the limiter on the M5, but so far no one has been successful in recoding their car. If I'm so inclined later maybe do a Dinan software upgrade.

Take it up to 150mph...

I still have yet to hit my limiter, I though it was 125mph, and it wasn't there...

Only way to really remove Is a Dinan tune.

While I understand the limited "principle," as a realistic matter why bother worrying about it?

Have you even brought the car over 100 MPH? Routinely?

You will not use the capability, it will not impact resale value. Unless your life is otherwise completely perfect, forget about it.

If your life is indeed otherwise flawless, go for it.

I have the 155mph limit. Even on my most enthusiastic day I have not reached anywhere close to 155mph. The last time I tried doing 130mph and got to 120 a cop pulled me over and let me go with a warning. So 120 is my psychological limit

I was on a portion of the highway that's in my neighborhood. He probably saw my address and I was not drunk or anything so he probably just felt sorry for me. I gave him no excuses and said as little as possible. It was around 3am and there was no traffic, that may also have helped.

Trust me, after that incident a couple of years back I am really not a big fan of flirting with speed limiters

Does the MPPK remove the limiter? I thought I read that on the forum somewhere?

i can verify that the limiter on a 328 Msport Xdrive is 133.

tested it on a secret road in mexico :X

its a funny feeling hitting that limiter, it kinda feels like a wall. you feel pulling all the way to it and then just nothing.

+1 here in North America. xdrive with 19" tires and summer performance rubber does have the limiter removed. 18" all seasons - no can do. Its in the VIN build code.

You were obviously polite and did not insult the cop's intelligence.

I have verified the existence of the 155 MPH limiter in my 335 which trips at roughly 160 MPH indicated. Acceleration is slow as one approaches this speed. It is a soft limiter, with separate fuel cut and ignition cut.

Sounds like your next mod should be a V1 or passport ! I think gentlemans code says there's no good reason to be out at 3am and not be drunk with female(s) company, so he probably knew you were going 120 for a reason.
