I've run my 2012 F30 335i on map 7 @ 18.5psi boost for a few months now with no issues using my stock charge pipe, but I did indeed just purchase the ER charge pipe due to the fact that the stock CP's do sometimes crack or break as malrayes mentions above. It is not all that common according to my tuner, but why take the risk? Plus it comes with 2 meth bungs, you get better throttle response and less turbo lag.

The OEM charge pipe is made of plastic and has a certain amount of flex which can be a little more restrictive IMO. The ER CP is made of metal, thus allowing no flex which should improve response and reduce lag. I don't have a CP on my car so I can't confirm this, but it's basically my understanding. Imagine drinking a milkshake with a thin, flimsy straw vs drinking with a straw made of aluminum. The sturdier straw will allow better flow and no "lag" associated with flex.

I wouldn't think there would be any performance benefits, but more 'this wont blow off under high boost like the plastic OEM one'.
But I have no idea honestly. |

i just received mine yesterday and looked for some local shops around and found one quoted me around 150$ for installation of ER cp
main reason to buy was the bad material of the OEM cp , i wasn't looking for the less lag.

I think someone said they estimated it took about 2hours to install the chargepipe themselves, but they're probably more comfortable with working on their BMW that I would be. Doesn't sound like it's a simple job regardless unless you own shop tools.

Does it come with instructions? I haven't opened my box yet - I'm waiting until I get an IC to do everything at the same time. Curious if you have to take off the bumper...

I should probably open my box and just look but I'm lazy - so does it install from underneath without removing the bumper? I'm curious if I'll be able to do this and the IC without removing the bumper?

In the instructions it says to lift the car and remove the guard underneath then start removing some stuff didn't go very detailed.

Any issues with leaving the chargepipe on when taking it to the dealer for routine maintenance?
My JB4 is arriving today and I'm debating about getting the chargepipe. I wont be going higher the stage 2 likely and only stage 2 once the electronic solenoid issue is fixed as I have the new one in the 435i. |

Leaving the cp on should be a non-issue. If they ask, just tell them the POS oem plastic pipe cracked and you wanted a far more durable piece. It's the tune and dp that need to be removed prior to service.
