Extended warranty

Hi All,
Has anyone paid for another 2 years warranty from BMW?
I have been quoted $3600.

Yes but I ended up upgrading to a new F30 before the extra warranty kicked in so it was a waste of money. The disappointing thing is that it made no difference to the trade in value although it was transferable to the next owner.

That's a shame. Do you mind sharing what you paid for the warranty?

If it's the product I believe it is, I think the BMW one is underwritten by Allianz?

I have access to a different product - underwritten by a different company with complete bumper to bumper coverage designed to replicate factory warranty. Fully transferable to the next owner of your vehicle as well.

3 years / unlimited KM for $2,800.

Happy to provide a sample PDS if you want to read more.

Yes. That's the one I was talking about. They have a few different products but there is one that is suited to Euro cars as they cover everything from mechanical failures to your iDrive screen getting a dead pixel and a replacement of that.

I have a 10% discount code available for the AWN/Lloyds one

Bumper to bumper ? If so then that's pretty good.

I paid for a BMW one. I think it was a little more but gives me piece of mind and I will only be doing cosmetic mods.

The only issue I see with AWN is that they require servicing 10,000km or 6mths, whichever occurs first.

Yes that's about right.

Yes like mechanical warranty, but it covers all your other stuff, sunroof, interior etc... if found out about, mods will void that component of the warranty. But the benefit is you don't need to go to a dealer for it.

Really? Well that cancels that one out then.

I noticed in the PDS it states repairs are done by an approved repairer. Who in Brisbane would that be?

You may want to google AWN a little before going ahead as they have far from the best reputation.

I ended up with a BMW extended warranty for 3800 post purchase... $1200 per year seemed like a fair balance...

I think that was about what I paid but a warning, from recollection BMW sell two different warranties, one which is an extended real BMW one which is what I purchased and the other a third party one. Not sure what the latter costs but I was only interested in an extended manufacturers warranty as I have been burnt before on third party ones!

There are quite a few options but if it helps - as mentioned above, the BMW one is underwritten by Allianz and there is also a direct Allianz one.

I have bought both products (one for my F31, one for a VW GTI) and had one claim on the direct Allianz product which was fine. At the time, I compared the PDS between the products and there was no effective difference.

There are also "extended manufacturer warranty" and "used car warranty" - explaining some of the differences.

Swan Insurance is another - I have used and made a claim (new diff) recently without issue.
I reccomend checking out www.leaseworks.com.au - I have had very good pricing from Kerry.

Also big advantage with Swan is that you can cash it in if you sell the car and get a pro-rata return even if you have made a claim. Last time i looked Allianz will not do this if you have a claim , and I have experienced this several years ago.

I have bought extended from BMW , 3 series are category 5 cars so premium is high . I paid about same but for 3 years.

Geta quote from Allianz as well . I bought a GTI this week and paid 2900 for 3 years .

Both are from Allianz Backed even BMW one . they are bumper to bumper but GTI has one clause which is Each claim limited to $5000 so be mindful of this and read through.

The guy who sold it me said Technically engine and gear box would have separate claim . so if something major goes wrong you would pay out of pocket but damage wont be that much e.g. DSG goes then i am $2000 out of pocket rather than $7000ish .

There is no access and no limit on how many claims . so you could have 2 or 3 small or big claims in a year as it is counted as factory extended warranty .

At the end of the day its rear that something will go wrong if the car has been maintained properly but there are always rare cases hence insurance is Peace of mind .

Having said all of the above personally i would rather have warranty and peace of mind especially if i did not buy new car and maintained it myself .

I have not claimed anything yet and hope never have to .

I just want to clarify that there are two types of BMW extended warranty on offer, one which is actually an extended manufacturer’s warranty and the other, a third party warranty which from the above, looks like it is underwritten by Allianz. Although the manufactures warranty was more expensive, I opted for this one as there were no restrictions and as previously indicated, I had been previously been burnt by third party warranty restrictions.
